I am coming to Korea to teach, but just got my criminal background check. In it, it shows that I have a criminal history, in that, I was arrested for resisting arrest. These charges were dismissed in court. Will this effect my ability to acquire an E-2 visa? |

Good chance it will ruin your chance. I have heard some people have written letters explaining and those people have been given the go ahead. But I have heard people being refused for having anything on a criminal record even small and petty stuffy too.
The news lately amongst the blogs, some forums, and recruiters is that immigration is getting more hard-assed. Anything on a CRC and you will be refused.
Still I would still try and apply. If you have to do the Interview at the consulate write a letter before hand and give it with your CRC. Be prepared to answer a few questions in said interview. But in the end be prepared to be shafted. Start seperating your eggs into other baskets. Maybe you can put a couple into that nice China one over there.

Thanks for your response. Can I assume that the fact that no one else has weighed in to mean that everyone agrees on my chances? BOO |

Nope. People might not have responded because
1) Simply do not know!
2) There is really no answer. This is Korean Immigration you are dealing with. You will get one answer one day and another the next. One answer fromimmi in Seoul and completely different one from Immi in Daegu. Hell you could get a different answer by walking to a different window at the department.
2) People have have answered or seen the answer and just do not want to answer again.
Still apply. But be prepared!
