Does anyone out there work for the SMOE?
I missed this semester thanks to the incompetence of my recruiter. So I am hoping to get a place for the next semester in March.
After reading a lot of feedback about the SMOE:

-It seems that there have been more applicants then places for the first time ever.
-After daily contact with my recruiter regarding a job with the SMOE, he is not responding to my emails.
-I have given most of my documents to the SMOE, I would like to know what is going to happen with these, since they won't post them back to me.
I would like to know if they forward the documents through for my application for March?

I don't know.??????????????

I want a job with the SMOE, the SMOE will hire me (they siad in my interview), so whats the story with my recruiter? Does he not want the commission?

Does anybody work for the SMOE? is it as bad as everyone is making out? Have things changed since the recession?

It will all become clear.

1. 2400 interviewed and around 500 eventually got jobs. If one can believe that in previous years the numbers of applicants were less than jobs available, then it's a big change.
2. Recruiter will come back for the next hiring season.
3. Documents are kept in file. CBC will be out of date. You didn't send original diploma, did you?

They all say "We want you." in the interview. That's a common HR practice. They do that because it's very hard to tell someone "no" face-to-face. Much easier through e-mail, or through a recruiter.

So, how does one 'get over' the pain of rejection? I eventually looked at people who are constantly rejected: Actors and actresses. They are rejected so much so that they love getting rejected. They keep going for auditions knowing they'll be told "next!". Why? Because they want to act. Do you want to teach?

Thank you Andrew! Someone who has the glass half full, realistic but half full!
So I need to think about getting another CBC plus whatever documents i missed out on.
How do you know they will keep the other documents? Any no they are not originals.

They told me I was deferred until next term and they were keeping all the documents but I would need a new CBC around the recruiting period because they are only valid for a few months...

You honestly think it was less than 2400 this year?
I hope you think that the number is B.S.'ed on the low side.
I think there was about 500 new posts on the subject and extrapolate that to the number of people too lazy to send an email, then further extrapolate per the number who dont care about starting an account.
Throw in those who took a reliable offer while they waited on the BS system.
Quadratic that by the reaction of the recruiters blaming the system, or citing overhauls to education and the number goes up.

I would guess at a minimum 4k basic qualified applicants. Minimum.
Double that and I wouldnt even bat an eyelash.

Dharma Blue:
I got that number from a Korean newspaper article. That article was a side link on a link from one of the posts about the SMOE mess. There are too many posts to go through to search for it. It basically said 2465 interviewed, 650 hired, mention couple of names from here and there, excited about teaching Korea, want to experience Asia, want to share my expertise with Korean students etc. This article was printed before the proverbial hit the fan. The reporter probably quoted SMOE. Do you really want the actual link to the article?
