I found a motorbike in the park all smashed up and in need of dire help. It sat there for 2 weeks before I decided to take it to my apt.... then later to a bike shop to get repaired and a key made for it. I've been driving it around for the past month without a plate or insurance. Chances are it was probably stolen, taken for a joy-ride, then later ditched. But not sure
When the day comes that the police stop me and demand to see the papers, I'll probably be in some big poop.....but I figure I can swindle my way through it with a little bit of "oops...but I found it in the park..here you go, have it" Do you think so?
Anybody have a simlar experience??? |

Yes, but I bought mine. It was stolen and then returned to the guy I bought it from. The police just never took it off the computer. They took me into the police station at two in the morning. I had all the paper work so it was cleared up quickly. |

If the serial # of the bike isn't registered to you or was listed as stolen then you are in possession of stolen property
not having plates or insurance isn't very bright either. But you can't get plates w/o the previous owner's paper.
In so many ways, you are just driving illegally an uninsured. We call those people increadibly stupid back in Canada, why do it here?
Give up the bike and get a legit one. |

Lotsa Koreans do just as you did. I also bought a scooter with no papers or plate but had no problem. It got stolen some time afterwards anyway - I only used it on campus most of the time. They don't cost much anyway - just go out and buy one and get legal. |

If the day comes when you wind up in jail you have no one to blame but yourself. |

A friend of mine a few years ago was busted here with a stolen motorcycle he found on the side of the road, fixed up, and rode. Upon arrest, he was sent jail for a month while awaiting trial and was then held by immigration for another two weeks awaiting his deportation. He was also fined 1 million won.
My advice to you, it ain't worth it, get rid of the bike. |
