1) I had mine done at the toronto police services this past june. I guess that would be considered local.
2) I didn't have my fingerprints taken.
3) From my understanding a VSS is something an organization requests about you. I don't think you can get a VSS yourself. I just got the regular police background check and that has worked fine.
hope this helps |

This is what I know:
1) If your town/city is serviced/patrolled/tasered by the RCMP, they do it. If your city/town has a city police force, they do it.
2) To my understanding, fingerprints are not taken unless your name comes up in the system as they take your written request. In my town, they run your licence through the system and if they get nothing, it's likely you won't need to be fingerprinted. If they get something, you'll be fingerprinted (and likely there a little longer than you initially intended - LOL).
3) Apparently, they do both and they release it/them to you upon completion of the process. And, you can get certified copies of the papers from the cops directly. No need for notaries. DON'T quote me on that - I'll find out later.
I'm going to get mine in the next week. If there's new/more accurate information, I'll post. I'm in the Fraser Valley in BC, and it may be different from region to region.
More later. |

You need a stamp from a notary public when you have copies made. After you have the notary public stamp it has to be taken to a Korean consulate where they apply a consular seal. Same thing if you make copies of your degree. |

Winnipeg police Services will provide ANY Canadian with a CRC including VSS by mail in about a week. From the time i sent my application from korea, it took me ten days total receive it back in korea (using a friend in canada to forward it expess to me). Go to their website, download and print the form, fill out it, check the VSS box, photocopy two pieces of ID, send it to them. About $30 plus postage charges. No fingerprints necessary.
If youre in korea, you then take it to the canadian consulate in seoul or busan and get a statement of declaration to verify it. Its about another $50 and its what you need for kimmi to approve it. Not sure what you need if youre outside korea, but thats all if you are here. |

So I guess local police CRCs are perfectly fine then? I was thinking of getting my CRC through the RCMP just in case...but if what you guys are saying is true then I might just go through the local police. |
