|
|
Where should I exchange Korean Won to Philippines Pesos? At my bank (IBK)? Itaewon? the airport?
Also, for those that have been, here is my pending itinerary - how much money will I need for a rather low key week with plenty of relaxation on the beach?
July 23rd - Manila
July 26th - fly to Boracay
August 1st - Manila
August 2nd - leave for Taipei
August 3rd - leave Taipei for Incheon |

really? I'll get a better exchange rate that way? Are there that many Korean tourists and Filipinos coming to Korea that they would actually want Korean Won at the Manila airport? |

KEB, if you can find one where you're at. Or bring dollars and do it in Manila. |

I can do KEB. Also, would you suggest Traveler's Checks (is Checks or Cheques the correct word here?) over cash? Or a little bit of cash and the rest in Checks/Cheques? |

If its for a large amount of money...then go with your bank. Airports in general will always give you lousy rates. I usually just exchange a small amount of money at Nino Aquino airport to cover taxi fares and whatnot. |

I was thinking somewhere around 1.3 million Won? That should cover me pretty well right? |

Personally I never carry more than 20,000 pesos on me. I generally walk around with about 5,000 pesos. If you got a working safe in your room should be ok I guess. Don't you have an international debit card? |

Nope. I guess I could check with KEB this week. Think I would be able to get one in time? |

Yes. They did one for me on the same day. However...I got to Boracay and IT DIDN'T WORK!!! Lucky I had money in my Australian bank account to use. I went back to the same bank and same lady (KEB - Posco Sageori in Samseong-dong) and she looked terribly embarrassed and gave me a form that needed to be signed to use the card overseas. Argh. So if you do this be very explicit about your need to use the card next week in The Philippines. I would still be wary trusting it though.

I think I spent about 1 million for a full week, which included copious amounts of alcohol and not stinging on meals, plus I did my Padi Advanced Open Water Diving Certificate (about 14,000 pesos) and 2 extra dives. 1.3 should be plenty.

There are heaps of Koreans in The Philippines. You have plenty of chances to keep practising your hangeul reading in Boracay! You can even eat sam gyeop sal if you want
Have fun |

Buy U.S dollars and exchange them in shopping malls in Phillipines. Don't bring won anywhere near the Phillipines as the exchange rate will scare you. Airports in the Phillipines are a joke at the exchange counters.
Also for a week bring at least 1200-1500 U.S. as it's not as cheap as everyone says. |
