I bought a modded Japanese Wii last year, and I can't remember if it'll play legit games sold in Korea. Will it? |

It should. One of the selling points of mod-chipping has been the fact that the console is no longer tied to a given country or region.
With that said, you should probably turn yourself in you dirty software thief. |

Don't update your modded wii with another region's update. You will kill (brick) it.
To avoid the problem, run a software called Brickblocker (google it) on the .iso file before you burn it to DVD. It will remove the update.
Good luck. |

I believe some of the loaders (Gecko loader, etc..) will also block the update portion of a disc if you happen to buy one of a different region that you can't use brickblocker on.
On another note: anyone play NTSC US version of Zelda:TP on their modded Korean Wii? It works fine for me, but the sound is half messed up. I even tried a couple different ISOs, they all do the same thing: choppy sound with missing tracks. I didn't even notice for the first little while, but it's gettting to me now. It takes more out of the game than I would have initially guessed.
The best I can figure is that the Korean Wii maybe has different audio architecture than the American one. I can't see it being a problem with the iso itself since I tried three different versions. Every other Wii game I've played worked perfectly. |

That's strange TP works fine for me. I'm 36 hours in and no (apparent) sound problems. The surround effects are fantastic actually.
About the update:
If you find a disk that asks for an update...just don't click yes. |

Have you tried another loader (neogamma maybe). Or running it of a USB drive via USBloader or neogamma? USB loading generally improves performance and load times.
Also, there's an IOS (Star....something) that blocks any disc based updates. It comes with some of the softmod packs. You can still update via wifi, anmd you don't need to worry about scrubbing discs. |

How do I install another loader? The guys at Yongsan did everything for me, and I haven't touched it since. Is it just a matter of plopping a couple files onto the SD card? |

If you have the Homebrew channel it pretty much is. You make a folder on the cards root directory named after the app, rename the apps .wad file to boot.wad and put it and any other files from the app in the directory you created. |

Gbatemp has a load of information, but it seems like even the threads entitled "For absolute noobs, it's doesn't get any simpler than this", assume that you know a whole bunch of things.
Anyway, it wasn't nearly as easy as described, but I got Neogamma installed and working. I had to install cIOS38 REV14 from a wad first, which was a bit of a hassle. Zelda's sound works great now, I went from weird minimalist drum music any many (I didn't know how many until now) missing sound effects to full blown orchestra and blips and bloops accompanying my every action. |
