Hi all.
Can anyone help me with the above?
I'd like to do a lesson plan to introduce myself and my country with some photos maybe. Any level.
How would I go about incorporating grammar?
I'll also use it as the lesson plan to give to my employer as they request one when you arrive.
So any experienced teachers out there what would be good?

Any tips or ideas would be great!
Smile

Just take it easy. Make a Powerpoint with some pictures and simple sentences, such as

I'm from ___
My favorite food is ___
My favorite animal is ___
My hobby is ___

and so on. In the end, have a short quiz.

Write a bunch of key words about yourself on the board and have the students guess the questions that correlate with them.

Put pictures on a ppt and put keywords with each one. Students use the keywords to write the questions or just ask you. Also, a basic interview will do fine. Get them to brainstorm the questions and make it into a radio show type thing.... have fun and be loose. The second class is the time to get on to rules/procedures and routines.

Check out the icebreakers on Teaching Recipes plus many of the other categories.

I'd also recommend if you have time - playing BAAM , Guess the Teacher. They play a great game for points but win by asking you basic questions. Go to RESOURCES and ppt games to find all the BAAM Games, on EFL Classroom 2.0.

Cheers,

DD

http://www.esolers.org/lessons/New_Semester/index.htm

Here is one - but you'd need pre-class prep in the form of students bringing copies of photos from home.

But, check out the book that is linked with that idea for things to do with large, multi-level classes. It has some good ideas, and it done by the whole class to help you get to know the students too.

You could adjust the first lesson noted above to just include nouns and phrases written on a poster or class portfolio --- and for the kids with artistic ability, they can draw pictures if they don't have copies of photos. If it is a very young elementary school class, it probably won't matter if they are good artists or not, all the kids might enjoy drawing.

I think powerpoints are good, and I have one for a class intro to US ESL students, but it doesn't get the whole class involved like the other ideas you can find in that book.

I think a class portfolio is a good idea even if you only meet the class once a week. It is a good memento for you and might show the students you care about them as individuals...

PS - Anytime you correct mistakes - especially using a common one - by writing it on the board and showing the correction, you are teaching grammar...

My first day I just introduced myself, felt like there was no reason to turn it into an actual lesson plan. Just a power point about me and the things to expect in the class.

Any level...here's what I do. Put them into groups of 2-5. Then tell each group they have to ask you 5-20 questions about you. Anything goes.

Some questions you'll get are pretty funny. If they ask the basics...what's your name, how old are you...make sure you put those questions in the Cho-din (초딩) category. It'll be worth remembering that word. (it means elementary student, but it's slang for usless, ignorant, stupid, childish).

You'll get a bunch of laughs out of that one. ( I do it with uni students and they laugh at each other and call each other cho-dings.) You can then force them to use english...and then the fun insults can really start Smile

Easy- don't worry about new grammar. They have 2 or 3 classes of that stuff a week with their KT. Your job is to get them to speak. I will give you another tip please teach them to write a basic sentence. For some reason all they do is study reading and grammar and can't think or write a basic sentence.

First day get out the facebook, and show them your family and stuff. Get them to talk to you about some easy stuff about themselves.

Here is another tip going for free today. Koreans love Korea and are more willing to talk about Korea. For you Americans out there who like to talk about America, America, America-get over it they are not that interested.

If you talk to them about Korea and stuff they can relate to they will talk a lot more.

They should be and youtube is a very good friend to a esl teacher who wants real talking out of the students rather then that canned stuff.
