I am experiencing emotional problems and want to talk to someone about them. I have a list of Conselors and Psychiatrists and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for central Seoul. Also, what is the difference between a counselor and psychiatrist?
Thanks

Hi there.
I'm sorry to hear that you are having some difficulties.
A psychiatrist is always a medical doctor who specializes in mental/emotional problems from a medical viewpoint. They often see more severe cases, and will probably prescribe/encourage medicine like prozac.
A counsellor is someone who is not a medical worker, but they help people with any life problems through talking-therapy, thought strategies, life balance etc. If your problem is very severe, they may recommend you see a psyiciatrist. 'Counsellors' are a broad group of people with different qualifications. Some are social workers, some are psychologists, some have PhD degrees, some have only done a brief course. |
