ok
my coworker is under contract at the world's worst hagwon. one of the many, i'm sure. ours is particularly bad. it's been complained about before on this board in great detail. unfortunately i came here 1 day after the bad info was posted on it........
anyways, he wants to bail, he has just cause, and the director has of course implied that he will be banned from working for 800,000 years or whatever the deal is if he does run from his contract.
he was told by another former teacher at this school (who also bailed-people drop like flies at this place) that you are only banned from working until the end of your contract.
i did various searches on this board because i know this question has been answered, but there's too many people posting on here about other topics to find a direct answer. help! |

As far as I know, he should only be able to be "banned" from working for the remainder of his original contract. That being said, there are rumors of hogwon owners paying extra to blacklist someone.
take it with a grain of salt. |

as far as i know you can only not work for another school until your current visa expires unless the hagwon gives you a release letter but these are pretty hard to get from good schools so i guess it would be nigh on impossible to get it from your school. |

can u do that? cancel your e2 at the airport and then get another job straight away before the original e2 expires? i've never heard that before. you might be able to say that you are not coming back and hand in your arc (alien registration card), but then can you get a new job before your original e2 expires if you decide to come back? |

Theoretically you could ratlash.
It depends on how serious your ex-employer was about banning you (for the remainder of your original E-2) and on how thoughrough immigration is in your case.
Its a roll of the dice really.
If you get "caught" coming back in as a tourist and applying for another E-2 before the original one has run out then they can (theoretically) toss you out of the country.
Even if the employer of the teacher in this thread is the devil himself, I would try to get the labor board involved. It might do some good (getting him fined or something else). Then again it might not...but in my opinion its worth a shot. The teacher might just get a letter of release and be freely able to apply for another E-2. |

Your E2 visa is your validation to work in Korea and is sponsored by your employer. If you leave and hand in your ARC to immigration, it then invalidates your E2 visa. When you leave whether at contact completion or by doing a runner, your employer must notify immigration that you no longer work for the school. He by law must do this within 24 hours, though many don't. Understand that he is responsible for you until such a time as he cancels that E2. Hand in your ARC, come back on a tourist visa and get another job. Be honest with any future employer about why you left your previous employment, if the need arises, otherwise say nothing. Just make sure that all your bills are up to date, so he has nothing to flag you on with immigration.  |
