|
|
Calling Canada from a pay phone using my calling card, suddenly in the last couple of months I can't get through.
Have the international numbers changed or something?
1 + area code + number
That's how I've been doing it for years, what's going on?
Thanks in advance. |

looks like you're missing the country code
001 + 1 + area code + number |

Ok thanks, I'll try that.
But why has it been working without the first part for years? Weird. |

Neither way works. Must be something wrong on the other end, I can't figure it out.
I tried from a pay phone, desk phone at school and my cell phone... nothing but a screechy comptuer-like bleeping on the other end. |

| Maybe your calling card is the problem? Try buying a different brand and see if that solves the problem. |

i always thought it was + or 00 and then the area code. i.e. +1... or 001...
anyhow, if you have internet at home why not just use skype? far cheaper. |

Do you have a Canadian calling card number? Telus, Bell, Rogers?
If so, just dial 00722-015. You can connect with the Canadian operator. It would also work for credit card or collect calls. It works with landline or cell phones. I *think* there's an option to speak with a real live person operator, but not sure.
Saved my life a couple of times. I memorized it a long time ago...but it only applies in Korea I believe. |

I think the problem is with the Citibank number I'm trying to call, but I am not sure.
I had another calling card, but it suddenly was expired. (although there was supposed to be half an hour left on it)
I tried hooking up with skype, but it failed also.
I seem to be jinxed or something.
I'll try a different card and see if that helps |

Citibank should have a collect call number that you can use - they offer them for international callers b/c we can't use their toll free numbers. Might be worth checking out the website to see if that's available.
Good luck! |

| I've had the same trouble with a card that I use to call the United States. Also, the card probably didn't expire, but because you're using the payphone, the phone deducts money too for using it, unless you are putting coins in as well? Try using a calling card on a cell phone and the time quoted will be accurate as the phone will charge your bill for the usage. |

The card worked well for the past 6 months. (I don't call home that often)
I checked the citibank website, I tried different numbers as well as the one I already had. Same with all of them.
I tried cell/home/ pay phones ... same result every time.
If I use 001 + 1 + area code + number , I get a recording saying this number is no longer in service.
If I use 00 + 1 + area code + number, I get the same.
If I use 1 + area code + number, I get a screechy bleeping, sort of like a computer sound.
Nothing works. |
