I see so many obese, bitter, miserable and hate-filled old white men in the United States. In that sense, old men in Korea seem way happier and content in comparison. |

Is it only "white" men that you observe in America. What about old black men. Latinios? Asian Americans? |

Could be because older men in Korea do whatever the hell they want when they want, and damn the peanut gallery that is the spouse and family. If there is no pressure perceived, there is no pressure.
Actually, Korean guys are under a lot of stress. I don't think they age any better (look at cancer rates), yet they do seem to take an inordinate amount of pride in 'looking younger than their years'. Wait a generation or two. After western food coupled with soju nights catches up to the 20ish crowd at play now, wait and see what THEY look like when they're older! |

Men who are drunk all the time will be perceived to be happy. Also the formaldehyde in soju acts as a preservative. |

Actually I disagree. I often get the evil eye from old men in Korea. I get the feeling they do not approve of me. No one else tries to stare me down like that, only old men. |

Take a look at how many older Korean men are bald or have grey hair. Korean society pressure and insecurity is why you see so many ajosshis with bad rugs or dyed/sprayed/shoe-polished hair. |

Actually, Korean men do age, badly.
Ever see the skin quality of a middle aged Korean man's face or skin?
Many of them have what I call, leather skin. Their skin is darker, and over all have a thick leathery look to it. The lack of sleep, over work, drinking, cigarettes, and late night partying takes an awful toll. You can literally see the liver and lung damage by looking at their faces.
How many "porridge shop" franchises do you see catering to older North Americans? Porridge shops serving food that does not upset the digestive system after years and years of abuse from fermented foods?
How many of these so called aged well Korean men and woman have to eat porridge due to "stomach" problems.

Doesn't matter what race you are. Age isn't kind to women. |

If it is not your culture you havent been trained to pick out those age or ugly indicators.
I would agree that Asian people age to a different degree under the prime circumstances. However why is it that I always hear how young I look and how perfect my skin is despite being bald. It is because I'm different and domestic rules dont apply. I'm ugly at home, but that dont translate here. They might be ugly here, but that dont translate back home.
Pure culture. "Beauty in the eye of the beholder" type stuff.
Who knows who ages the best but one thing is certain theres a number of healthy old people here compared to anywhere in the west. I walk with people my grandpas age and hes lucky to get up and down stairs one a day.
My largest indicator to health by culture, squat tiolets. If you kept your legs in that good of shape and your bowels in the shape to not ruin your pants then yeah your body will last a lot longer than those who just plop down and squirt. |
