|
|
Hey,
I'm not one to usually bash Korea, but this takes the cake.
http://thegrandnarrative.wordpress.com/2009/08/23/korean-gender-reader-2/
The videos in the above link make me sick to my stomach, at least one does.
First, watch the third video down from the top. It shows you, through the example of the men lap-dancing, that Koreans just don't understand what it means when a man is giving a lap-dance to another man. Are they truly that ignorant? It's going to be hard from someone to come on here and say that that is part of the culture or whatever, that men are friendly to each other. I'm sorry, but they aren't that friendly. The second guy getting the freak-down is obviously joking around. The first one....
Second, watch the fourth video from the top. That is the video that makes me ill. Who in their right [Mod Edit] mind would have a baby like that dancing like that? They think that's cute? They think that's acceptible? They encourage that? Perhaps you may think that I am being ethnocentric, but, I don't EVER remember seeing children in the US doing that on television or anywhere for that matter.
It's sickening. |

It's awesome when a post hits that sweet spot in the Venn Diagram right between "racism" and "homophobia".
Spot on. That right there is a professional English Teacher at work. |

So you condone that little girl (what, 5 years old) freaking it down like a grown woman and everyone cheering? Yeah, right there is a sick person at work. Take a hard look in the mirror, friend.
You missed the point about the guy freaking it down. They think it's cool but don't realize the connotation behind it. It's blatantly obvious. Are you one of those that can't see past the obvious or are you just that bored that you are looking for an argument? |

eh....the little kid is just dancing in a style that is popular right now. The current vogue of dancing has a lot of suggestive moves. The Wondergirls do it. Girls Generation etc....they all dance like that.
So the little girl is just aping the dance moves of the day. You're not supposed to see it as anything sexual! She's five!!
A quick youtube search will show you lots of western kids enjoying themselves by copying the dance moves of the stars.
Here's some kids doing the Thriller routine by MJ.

I don't see any harm in it. It's just kids copying what they see.
The guys messing around in the first video seemed like light-hearted fun to me. No big deal.
Lighten up, CL!! |

You gotta remember that lap dancing ain't a Korean thing, so in their minds they can do with it as they please. I'm sure they know what it means, but because it came from another culture it's not treated the same way. On the other hand if they had big lap dancing establishments here that were frequented often by your average dunken adjoshi they wouldn't be making fun of it on stage. |

whateva, i still think it's wrong to encourage a little girl to do dances like that (they are encouraging her). I guess I'm old-fashioned that way. I know if I had a daughter, she wouldn't be doing that, at least, not with me knowing. |

To you, but not to them. You're the one projecting the sexual connotation. To them, it's cute. |

Ahhh.....have you ever seen child beauty pagents in America?
That video you overreacted to was PG13 compared to the stuff back home. |

See, it's interesting. My wife showed me the video. She pointed out that the little girl had to have been taught all of those moves. What do you think? I guess my wife is also reading too much into it? |

It's suggestive, period. How can you deny that? That little girl was taught those moves. She didn't just mimic all of it. |
