Hi all

I have been looking through the forum, but there is a lot of stuff there, so please old hands, don't get aggro!

OK I am working at a university in Kangwon-do on an E2 visa. My wife (also a NZer) has no degree. So she can get a dependants visa. A colleague said that she thought that on an E2 visa, my wife as a dependant can legally work a certain number of hours, but she was unsure of the details. As you know, Korean government websites are pretty obtuse and soooo hard to get any specific information from. So does anyone out there know for sure, or have they had this very situtation themselves? Confused

No, she can't work. Not sure about the penalities, maybe a fine, maybe deportation. Depends on the situation/where/which immigration officer/etc.

She can apply for permission. Much like an E-2 can only work at one place, but may apply for permission to work somewhere else also.

Under the E-2, you should be enrolled in the National Health Insurance Program. I'm curious about how or if spouses/children are covered under the E-2 holders policy or do they have to apply for supplemental insurance. Anyone know?

First you can apply for an F2 Spousal Visa at immigration and get a visa number within 10 days. Then your wife would go to the Korean Embassy, present the visa number, pay a fee and get the visa. Your wife can't work on the F2 Visa.

For health insurance, you can add your wife and children. You may need to go the National Health Insurance Office to do this if your school/college will not help you.

An F-2 is a Residential visa (for the spouse of a Korean national or someone with permanent residency). Does the OP have permanent residency?

An F-3 is a Dependent Family visa.

OculisOrbis,

Dependent family members are covered under an E-2's NHIC premiums.
