I'm going to Israel this Fall for 10 days. Are there any compelling reasons to stay for a couple of days in Tel Aviv?
Yes, I can use Google. But I'd like to read your commentary on Tel Aviv.
Cheers. |

Let me guess.. Israel for 10 days... birthright?
I went this winter. I actually liked Tel Aviv, but I had a much better time in some other places. Tel Aviv I never really found so special. After a couple of days, you've pretty much seen it. My favourite places in Israel were up north near the most norther border crossing to Jordan (stayed at a kibbutz), where it was beautiful.. and you could go and pick avocoados and pomeliot right from the trees. I would have liked to have gone back to Jerusalem, I had a good time there too, and I really enjoyed the Negev desert.
I had extended my plane ticket about a month and a half and also went to Jordan for a week and Turkey for 2.5 weeks. Jordan and Turkey were both wonderful trips. Although I didn't find Israel anything special compared to other places, it has a really (I know someone's going to laugh at this one) sort of peaceful feeling that the other places I visited didn't have, especially the kibbutz.
Tel Aviv is worth spending a couple of days in for sure, but it's not super special, really. Others might disagree.
Oh, but also, keep in mind, my extra time in Tel Aviv was actually mostly staying in Rishon LeZion and going into Tel Aviv during the day, that might have made a difference.
Also, random comment, Israel does not at all feel to me like the Middle East.
Edit: last note. If you go, make sure to go on a.. tuesday I think it is, when there's some sort of really cool artsy market on a pedestrian street somewhere. Unfortunately, I forget the name of the market and the street, and even am not sure it's a tuesday... I could find it again, but that would not be useful to you, but if you ask, I'm sure someone knows what the heck I'm talking about and will point you in the right direction. That was a nice day.
And eat a ton of Labeneh for me. And hummus. |

I just had to look up Birthright Israel and, no, that's not the reason I'm going. 10 days is a complete coincidence.
Thanks for your other comments |
