I am just wondering because I am currently saving up for my flight to Korea, but I'm not sure if you are supposed to have a school pay for your flight upfront. |

Recently, a lot of teachers through the Seoul public school system did this and SMOE decided to cancel contracts due to lack of funding. This left the teachers scrambling to get another job and find out if they could get a refund or change flights.
Obviously, I don't know the results, partly because I don't pay 1 cent/won for a flight. I would try to negotiate with the school to pay for it as best I could. Even free hours for a while would be better I think than paying for it in my opinion. I am sure others would disagree. It's up to you. |

In the public schools you have to pay up front and you are reimbursed in the first month. Most hakwons pay for it up front though. |

Not always. It might be agreed to that way, but don't expect it.
I suggest teachers only agree to the bare minimum, then when you get reimbursed open discussions for working overtime and other things that would help the school.
If they pay upfront for the flight though, do the right thing and find out what else they want. I skipped one hagwon offer cause they didn't pay for the flight. However, I made sure the second one that did pay for it was aware of my willingness to work with him.
Right now, my next school (public school) hasn't talked to me about me moving in, but they are trying to find out about other stuff I am willing to do for the school (like after school programs).

Right about that. I paid for my flight and was reimbursed about 2 weeks later for my public school position. |
