| There's shallots for sale at E-Mart. Real shallots, not green onions. They seem pretty elusive (outside the microscopic expensive ones in Itaewon) They were in the Ilsan E-Mart located low to the ground on one of the shelves below the produce displays, along with the little bags of ginger. There are 8 shallots in the bag I bought, all a good size and seem healthy and fresh. The cashier was looking at them like they were the strangest thing. She paused and looked at them while checking them, then again as I was getting my money out. Here's a picture of the bag http://i53.tinypic.com/34td4w1.jpg |

| Shallots are in season right now. They have them at the traditional markets so they must be used in Korean food and not a foreign novelty vegetable. Check at the markets and you can find them much cheaper. At least that is the case here in Busan. |

| These are from the Netherlands. What food do they use shallots for in Korea? They seemed like a real novelty. |

They're used pretty extensively in Chinese cooking, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some carry-over into Korean Chinese cuisine. |
