I guess I just wanted to get this story out there.

Yesterday, after I left the school, a couple of grade two middle school students beat the bag out of another student right in the school's hallway. The student in question had a broken jaw and a few molars loose.

Guess who received a boat load of dirty looks this morning. You guessed it, the "Migook" elephant in the office. It's partially my fault because my savage culture influenced this type of behavior.

My handler (co-teacher) is getting reamed out as I type, by the vice principal, 2 feet from the back of my head. It just ended. My handler told me that she is responsible for the students behavior because the students were in her home room. Shocked Shocked Shocked

The student who was beaten is very poor and was rejected by the hospital yesterday afternoon. Again Shocked Shocked Shocked . The student has gone to the emergency room this morning. All the parents in question will convene in my office some time today. My handler is a tough chick, but she seems to be a bit shaken right now. I will not be sticking around for this conference.

Keep us posted on the eventual face saving nonsense.

Methinks the proverbial will land on you - the outsider.

Good luck.

I'm not following how it can be your fault.

Fights in Korean schools are not new. In fact, Korean boys often brag about who the best fighter is. I remember in 1995, my cousin was in Korean middle school, and he used to tell me his best friend was the #1 fighter in the school. Also, in Korean movies, you see students having fights in schools all the time.

So OP, how exactly did you come to the conclusion that your presence at the school deserves the blame for the fight?

Did you do something to the boys during class that would cause them to fight each other? Did you tell one of the boys to beat the crap out of the other?

I'm very interested to know how you connect the dots to assume everyone in the schoolis blaming you. Could it be that the teachers in the school are embarrassed that you, a foreigner, had to witness somethign like that, therefore the weird atmosphere?

I guess I could have posted it in the Job Related Forum, but I see this fitting in any of the 3 three forums, other than the travel forum.

pkang0202 - I don't literally think or was actually blamed for the incident! It was just the air in the office this morning. My "nunchie" was off the charts with some nasty looks from the 11 Korean females in the office. Then my handler tells me about the scuffle. I sort of put 1 and 1 together and stated what I felt. Obviously I was not at fault. There was a bit of sarcasm mixed with the "waygoogin" syndrom.

So what you are saying by stating that Korean boys fight all the time, is that the Confucian ideology is a sham along with many other aspects of.....

Kangie - If people are embarassed, do they generally give nasty looks to the person in question. That does not sound logical to me. See my last statement for a reference to logic.......

You should confront them. Say, "Hey, whats with the bad atmosphere? Did I do something wrong?" Give them a guilt trip about it. Tell them you feel like you made a BIG mistake somehow. Make them feel bad for giving you bad looks.

I don't want to do that, it's not my style. If they have an issue with me, I expect them to step up and speak. I just don't want to play bullshit mindgames with my co-workers. I respect all of them and would like to keep it that way.

On a side note - Whem I was a youngin Migook, we would fight after school, away from school. We knew scrapping in school would lead to bigger problems and more people involved.

Was the student beaten a trouble maker. Did he have a chip on his shoulder because he was poor. Got a feeling he was maybe a "wongta". Probably would have got beaten up regardless.

On the other hand the other guy administeing the punishment could maybe have been a "wongta" and needed to take his aggression out on someone.

It was a 2 on 1 deal. I just don't know why it happened. There are 350 students per grade. I just can't keep up with every one of them. I know there were serious decisions made the next day. I have no idea what they are. As you guys are aware, who gets informed about anything as a waygoogin. My handler (roof roof) just said to me the next day that all fighting in the school was taked care of.

They broke the kids jaw. I didn't think any of these kids had that in them!!

Back in 2005, one middle school student killed another student at his school in Busan in a fight at school.

There is a definite "hierarchy" among male students at a high school. Ask your students who the best fighter is in the grade/school. I'm sure some of them will tell you.
