With all of the battling going on between the mom&pop stores and the big box retailers, I'm curious where the people here prefer.

Lets hear it.

Hanaro Mart. Local produce at dirt cheap prices, but very little in the way of western cuisine and sometimes I just need some decent cheese, pasta and olives. It's kind of an amalgamation of all the above.

I usually go to Lotte Mart simply because it's less than a block away and everything else in my area is just Buy The Ways and 7-Elevens.

However, I have recently found a medium sized grocery that opened up where a restaurant used to be. There isn't much, but I get my produce and mandu from there. I can't quite come around to using the screaming farm trucks, although I think I should.

My wife goes to Homeplus. Sometimes she drags me along against my will.

My brother in law and his wife do my costco shopping (my wife gave them a list when she left to go back to the states).

I split the rest of my needs between Haddon house black market and Homeplus.

Local Emart or farmers market for main shopping, plus top up stuff from local small shops. One of my local markets has better fruit than Emart ever has.
Went to Homeplus last time though, as we needed a few extra things and to look at what's new-nothing.

Buying local keeps me from lying awake at night thinking about my carbon footprint.

Lotte mart cos im about 500m from it and its the only supermarket in the area.

Mostly Costco for meats and vegetables/fruit. If we need just a little of this or that we prefer the "street markets". I usually hit Homeplus once a month.

For me it is all about price and quality. Sorry the Mom and Pop places are suffering but they don't pay my bills. I know they can't compete price wise with the big boys. I think the M&P places should form a cooperative and work together on pricing, promotions, etc...

I get all my veggies, fruit, and nuts at Cheongnyangni market, near Dongdaemun outside Cheongnyangni station on line 1. Very cheap and fresh, although the area is disgustingly dirty (rinse produce well!)

Besides that I go to E-Mart for eggs, milk, and meat and Costco for other things like natural peanut butter, avacados, frozen blueberries, etc.
