|
|
Subject line says it all. Has anyone (who's not a Korean national or an American) done this successfully?
I'm sorry how that sounds, but it's PayPal, not me, as they say residents of South Korea can withdraw funds into Korean or American bank accounts, but that only Korean nationals can register Korean bank accounts. That seems to leave every expat here who's not American high and dry.
I've had extensive correspondence with them, but it's been circular and unloving. Anyone else had any luck? |

It's circular and then after a while they just quit replying to me altogether. |

Speaking of Paypal, has anyone noticed it has 'stopped' working with Gmarket? I get to the Paypal page, but the transaction information is just blank everytime. |

I setup a Korean Paypal account. I tried attaching my Korean bank account. It asked for the account number... Ok so far.
It asked for my address... OK so far. I typed it in Korean.
It asked for my national id... I entered it and it said...
This is an invalid national ID. I used my ARC number.
I wrote a support letter to paypal. They were very helpful. They told me to just use my Korean Corporate ID instead.
I emailed them back letting them know I had no Korean Corporation and thus no corporate ID.
They again were very helpful. They said.... This is not going to work for you.
After that I tried registering the debit card (from the KEB account) on the paypal account. That too failed.
Better luck.

Transfering money from a paypal account to a Korean account is easy. Even if you want to send mooney from your Korean account to USA.
I have anUSA account since 2002. so this is what I did.
I made a 2nd email account and registered that with korea paypal. 2nd I got a debit check card from NH bank, KEB also has them. These are easier to use then the korean check books. At least to register.
Then I just took one of my teachers National ID numbers: heck I mad at her so anyone who wants it I spill it . That makes the account legal.
You don't need the ID number though to send money. You can call paypal and they will verify you.
When you send money I send it with my korean debit card to my paypal account or USA bank depending on my mood.
So yes, it is very easy to do. |

Paypal has an international site.
1st. If your paypal account is registered with say hotmail in USA, then make another email address. Say yahoo or aol.com. Register the address thistime to your korean school.
2nd. Its very hard to put a Korean checking account into paypal, as even if registered you can only send money into a USA account. So get a NH bank debit/check card. These have visa or mastercard on them.
You now have 2 paypal accounst. one USA/ 1 Korea. Send cash though your korean debit card to your USA paypal account.
After money is sent, you can use the USA paypal account to deposit it into your bank.
As for a ID number, just ask one of yoru teachers at your school. Most koreans are nice and will let you use theres.
Like I said it is very simple. |

@loyfriend: Thanks but in my original post I noted that I'm not American and thus don't have a US bank account.
@ukon: I've never had a problem getting money from my Korean credit card to paypal either, but I'm trying to go the other way: get money OUT of paypal for items sold on ebay INTO my korean bank account. |

To my knowledg paypal wont support direct deposits of non USchecking accounts.
But, they will mail you a check to your korean address that you can put into your bank.
Or use the paypal money you have, go to western union and make a money order. Use yoru paypal balance. Mail your money to yourself. |

PayPal works fine if you have a Korean ID number. You can hook up your Korean bank just like the US version...if you have a Korean ID number. It doesn't work just to have a check card, you need to verify your account by using a checking account.
I was told that if you're not a Korean citizen, than it's illegal for you to use Korean PayPal...although i'm sure people circumvent that. For those that use other people's ID numbers, you're doing ID theft and fraud. It'd be like taking someones social or drivers license number and using it. Not to mention that they can do a check against the name on the account and the ID number. |
