I have taken a leak oudoors in America, so I guess I could also qualify as a sex offender (although luckily for me I remain unregistered).
Seriously, though, the examples in the article show how bonkers the U.S. has become in regards to this stuff. |

| Police and prosecutors are also failing to exercise their discretion. I guess they just figure it makes their statistics look better. |

I get a chuckle out of using words like....police, prosecuters, and discretion in the same sentence. |

| I know of a case whare a guy got labeled as a sex offender because the gal he was dating (never had sex with) was 6 months under the legal age limit. |

The USA is out of control in this regard. In my opinion, it's because so many people view porn on a regular basis, yet have conflicting guilt about doing it. How they deal with it is by accepting their actions as OK, yet vent all of their pent-up disgust with what they're doing on anyone remotely associated (right or wrong) with child porn or underage sex.
The real victims are the kids who are 18 or 19 and dating a kid that's 17 who get branded as a pedophile for life. |

I agree and thats one of the reasons I will never travel to the US with any electronic media includihg a cell phone. I have enough knowledge of US customs to know that I couldn't trust them any farther than I could throw a Hyundai truck. If you hand your media over to them who's to say that someone may need to be made an example of and it might just be you. They could stash anything on there they wanted and then it would be up to YOU to prove otherwise something most of us don't have the money to effectively fight off with lawyers. |

Regardless of the real and frequent misapplication of sex offender status in P.C. America these days, the fact remains that the sexualization of American youth is on the rapid increase.
Case in point: the gradual rise in the number of teen pregnancies over the past quarter century.
Another case in point: the need on the part of sex educators to distribute condoms in junior high school and even elementary school.
And: several years ago at Punahou, the same school Obama attended and the premier prep academy in the state of Hawaii. several girls and boys were caught having oral sex and copulation on school grounds during daylight hours while school was still in session. This is hardly an isolated incident.
One thing I find refreshing about teaching in China is that this is still not a problem here although, to be sure, there has been an increase in the number of sexually active high school students.
But who should be surprised given the ready availability of online porn, the pornification of reality TV shows, and the pornstar behavior of many celebs?
One needn't be a prude to find this trend alarming. |

But, what exactly does Obama have to do with this discussion? Then again, maybe it was Obama doing the copulating... big respect!

They do this to stop unwanted pregnancies that can be very damaging to a girls future career. Kids are gonna have sex. Abstinence doesn't work. That's exactly why Obama's just cut funding from all abstinence programs (there's your link!)

Yeah, we better prosecute them for sex crimes. That way we can be sure this behavior will eventually go away.

Uh, think what you wish. But if you don't find it alarming that this kind of behavior goes on, and so brazenly, well, that says much more about you than me (or even them, given that you're an adult).

While I fully agree that the sex offender thing can and has been carried too far, anyone on this forum who is a PARENT isn't likely to condone the conduct (that would leave out most of the posters to this thread, I'll bet). |

I understand that photo developers are tasked with blowing the whistle on clear instances of child pornographic material, and I support that. Still, as evidenced by this case, it seems that we are "throwing the baby out with the bathwater". |
