Jeez, so many threads here devoted to putting down others and spewing judgmental garbage. Some of you losers should get laid, or at least get away from the computer more often. Makes me glad I hardly ever read the crap forum anymore..

Dave's has always been like that, just recently shifted toward judging foreigners rather than Koreans.

I think alot of that has to do with the new ToS. If someone posts something that is considered insulting and degrading to other posters, it could be picked up as a ToS violation and could get a poster kicked out of the forum.
So this is how it goes- as long as the post is not degrading Korea or Koreans, it is ok.
I think until as early as 2007, the forum has been purged of many well-known posters who were huge Korea-bashers.
I also believe Dave Sperling wants to keep the forum out of the Korean media like it was in the Chinese media a few years ago (which forced him to make the Chinese off-topic forum strictly a members-only forum)- he makes alot of money from having Korean schools and recruiters who post their ads on this website and any bad publicity about Korea would greatly harm his business.
Many people say that it is their right to free speech to post on internet forums like Dave's. Although this is an anonymous newsgroup that is open to the general public, Dave has to keep his business interests in mind.

I do not see the "bashing", as the total of what this cafe offers. There is a good amount of useful information and opinion sharing. Statistics! I have learned alot about Korea from this site.

Actually, I'm a pretty well known apologist.

I think I understand after 1 year, the korea bashers.

No matter how your perspective is, there are inevitably things about Korea that even Koreans get annoyed with.

Some things about manners are not so Universal. But no one likes to get pushed. And no one really likes to have their feeling ignored.

However, the key is not to judge other people, but to rather recognize it and accept it. Just some things we can't change.

I do know some Koreans with a lot of international travel, call Korea "underdeveloped". I was curious by why they made this particular statement. They said that Korea still lacks the moral and intellectual (creativity mainly) standard of other countries. Most of them say despite Koreans massive ability for a wealth of knowledge and a take no prisoners attitude towards education, they haven't encouraged independent thoughts, which is crucial for advancement. In addition the moral values of your average Korean lacks the same level of empathy and social care as would other countries have. By the very least, what some of them said is at least fake caring. Like the Japanese... lol I laughed a lot when I heard this. (they still took the time to bash Japan)

Frankly though, I like the bluntness sometimes. I had some co-teachers tell me my new haircut sucks. So I changed it back. Nice to know I looked like kermit the frog.

Actual I think Dave's has been much better since the ToS started being actively enforced. Almost all of the posters that used to spew racism and hateful garbage are gone, even if new ones inevitably sign up. Luckily they're easy to spot.

Is what it is. Venters have their valid points but tend to have a one-size-fits-all point of view. Nevertheless a lot of good info gets spread. Newbs need to be cautioned that the negative tone of these forums is definitely not representative of what most people experience in Korea.
