What is the deal with Apple milking money from their customers?
Snow Leopard is a service pack. It should be free. |

Snow Leopard is not a service pack. Ars Technica has a *23-page* article that details the changes.
A "service pack" is a Microsoft euphemism for "a crapload of security fixes and patches for an unfinished operating system". |

I just updated to Snow Leopard. It definitely wasn't as huge an upgrade as say, Tiger to Leopard was, but after using it for a day it was definitely worth the 45,000 won I paid for at Technomart. My macbook is a lot snappier and there are a lot of little features that are nice.
That said, I wouldn't pay full price for it. |

The upgrade price from Leopard to Snow Leopard is 45,000. The version, from Tiger or earlier is 249,000krw. I would *not* pay that.

That said, you can install the regular upgrade on any mac, Tiger or earlier. Apple doesn't tie your OS into any serial number or registration, so it's on the honor system that you buy which version you need. I just used the same Snow Leopard DVD to upgrade my girlfriends G5 iMac from Tiger to Snow Leopard and it works fine. |

Wish they had such an upgrade for my I-pod touch, because mine crashes more than XP does. |

the reason its that expensive is because it includes 10.6 + iLife + iWork. it has nothing to do with Tiger or earlier. |

I updated my MBP to Snow Leopard and I honestly can't see any major differences. |

Since Snow Leopard doesn't run on PPC, I doubt that you upgraded a G5 iMac to the new OS. That said, I think that most of the changes are "under the hood" and it is well worth the 45,000 won (to me). |

Ah, you're right, just checked. I assumed it was a G5 since it has the older white body and not the aluminum/black trim but it's not. |

As I understand it, the $29 US price is for Leopard users only.
"Upgrade from Mac OS X Leopard with Snow Leopard, a simpler, more powerful, and more refined version of Mac OS X."
"Mac OS X v10.5 (Leopard): Upgrade your Mac by purchasing Mac OS X Snow Leopard for $29"
"Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger): Upgrade by purchasing the Mac Box Set, which includes Snow Leopard, iLife 09, and iWork 09, for just $169."

I recall specifically having confusion over this when we bought a copy this weekend. Of course iLife + iWork make it more expensive, but as far as Apple says, if you're not running 10.5 you're supposed to buy the FULL version.
That said, the upgrade seems to have worked just fine. |

Really? Is it jailbroken? Mine rarely crashes. I think some poorly coded apps can make it crash too.
Looking forward to the new Ipod touches |

Actually with Snow Leopard your getting quite alot, and it's the most advanced version of the operating system. How much would you have to pay to upgrade from vista to windows 7 ultimate? Over 200 dollars!
And people are saying that windows 7 is what vista should have been.
Also expect more companies to start adopting Apple's new open standards of Open CL, instead of Microsoft's closed direct x.
Apple's products will continue to become even more standardized with in the overall community, and this is greatly due to the release of Snow Leopard.
One can look at Snow Leopard as a HUGE release for the developers, and a nice release for the average consumer. The fact that the Snow Leopard gives the user back gigabytes worth harddrive space means that they are actually potentially saving money. |
