I'm hoping some of you pros could help me out with a few questions on intl. schools:
I'm considering getting my teaching license but I heard that some schools don't require this. Seems strange, but is that true?
Does anyone work (or know anyone who works) at an intl. school? What have you heard about them? What areas are most in-demand? When is the hiring season?
Thanks! |

yes I do. a friend of mine has worked at them for the last 6 plus years.
do you mean international schools everywhere or just in Korea btw?
heard? many things.
not so much areas, but specific schools which are highly prestigious and offer superior compensation packages. They're interspersed around the globe.
hiring season occurs at job fairs held stateside which you must personally attend... in Feb or March I think..
that's when they weed out the candidates they will then further seriously interview.
and yes, you absolutely need to be licensed (unless it's some school that "international" in name only and pays less than you'd make in Korea.
there's a chicken and egg issue with them because they want you to have international experience, but that's where Korea helps out, especially if you worked in a public school.
that's one major reason I went to work for a PS instead of a hagwon.
I'm looking to hopefully make the move in the next several years. |

You need a teaching degree for a real international school.
There are some Christian schools that don't require a degree and some hagwons are called international schools.
Good international schools are some of the best teaching jobs on Earth. |

Get your teaching degree, ceritification, and a couple of years experience in your home country. Back that up with your MEd. Go to Hong Kong or try to angle for a real international school job in Seoul.
I've met a good number of teachers from these schools, and they love their jobs and they make good money. |
