I've heard that they're way overpriced compared to the west.
The pressures are starting to pile up on me... |

Mate...... worrying about the price of an engagement ring is not going to be your biggest worry in the future..... Seriously, think about what you're about to do ( if you're marrying a K girl you're going to become the 'money making machine' and all your money - for the rest of your life - has already been allocated and spent).
Good luck with getting a 'good' price on the ring. |

I'll give you an example.
In Belgium I bought a 2 karat diamond ring for 18.000 euros.
When this person then went to value the ring she got a valuation of around 34.000 dollars
The diamond had only one flaw and had very good color. |

The best thing to do is to go to Hong Kong and buy a diamond ring there, or buy it online at a place like Blue Nile or Whiteflash. The ring and diamond that I bought in America was appraised for $8000. The same ring and diamond was priced at 14 million won here in Korea. If you are going to buy a diamond in Korea, I'd buy it at a department store and make sure you get a GIA certificate. |

Yikes!! You really are an old stinky fart! OP, you may want to then price out a new "O-Ring". My next question is, which one is going to hurt more when you put it on!! |

Diamonds are so over valued anyway. Considering how common they occur in nature, you could just dig one up and polish it yourself.
Fortunately one company has tons of them locked away in vaults for all of you who trying to impress your girlfriend's family and friends.
Instead I recommend a ruby or sapphire. They're a much better value and more beautiful IMHO. |

My wife's ring is beautiful, but it's not diamond. Many Korean women are certainly acquisitive enough, but they haven't had this sales scam drummed into them by DeBoers over decades that a diamond is necessary for an engagement or wedding ring, and all that three-months-wages flatulence. You might buy an inexpensive promise ring and then shop for a nice ring with your fiance, and find out what she's into.
We're all assuming you're getting married. Maybe you want to play Elton John on the piano and want rings on all your fingers or something, or you want to belly dance and put them on your toes. Anyway, that's my advice.

Costco. After you buy it, have it appraised. if you don't think you got a good deal, return it to Costco. That's their policy.
Check this out.

What type of stone is it? I was thinking of getting a nice deep black polished onyx stone set in silver and having it engraved for the "official" wedding. Maybe make a matching silver box for when I hand over my huevos (that's *beep* for all you common folk) as well.
Okay, the *beep* was referring to part of my genitalia responsible for makin' them little white critters.

To be honest, I am a little embarrassed -- it is imitation diamond. My wife thought that shiny glass is shiny glass, and having a nicer honeymoon was better. No complaints here.
Congratulations. The onyx sounds good for the huevos-rancheros-handing-over ceremony. I would be slightly less romantic and consult with my fiance about these things beforehand (maybe you have). Korean women associate different things with different gemstones, just like we link red roses to passion, for example.

I don't know of any gemstones that are slightly tan with little white blotches, thanks to my strategically placed vitiligo. |
