I'd like to integrate one into a site I'm working on, something similar to this one here on Dave's.

What's the secret to having no spam, though? All the messageboards I've had in the past have got attacked by spambots. I guess letting only registered users post is the secret.

Any good recommendations for messageboard software? Paid or non, though I don't suppose anything good is available for free.

You might want to look at this very innovative idea from the js -kit people - Echo. Really cool way to have a message board and site interaction.
