I'm in Daegu and looking to buy a Canon lens new.
I know of a couple good places to look for electronics, but the few that I went to were trying to sell it to me for over 2 million whereas I've seen it online for about $1,100US.
So I'm looking for recommendation of places to go -- in Daegu, in Seoul, anywhere as long as I wasn't spending an outrageous amount. |

| I think there are lens stores around yongsan, I've seen a few near namdaemun. you really want to take the body with you and check the lens first. I had a guide somewhere on the things you should check on a lens before buying it.. |

Last time I did that I got charged $80 at customs...even though my parents marked it as a gift. |

There is an Olympus that sells Canon stuff store near the big LOTTE store in Seomyeon district, Busan. It's a shorter ride here than it is to Seoul and I know there is at least one English speaker there. I can't speak for the price, though, as I haven't shopped for a lens in a while.
Oh, and by the way, when you got charged at customs for that gift from your folks, did they send it with original packaging still on it. My folks send me a few things and I didn't get charged a dime, but all the packaging was removed. |

There is a small string of camera shops in Nampo-Dong, Busan, which sells black market camera equipment -- i.e., brought in from Japan without tax being paid. This may explain why the prices you're seeing are so high.
I'm curious as to what sort of high-end lens you are looking for! That seems like an awful lot for a zoom or specialty lens. I think the most I ever spent for an A-series lens was $300, although that was a long, long time ago...

Its probably a quality fast zoom lens. Those can be expensive and around that price. You can get a 3rd party f5.6 zoom for 200,000. But if you want something down in the f2~ range, its going to cost big bucks, but its really good for low light zoom. |

| Namdaemun is definitely the place to go. Forget Yongsan, that place will only give you a headache. |

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF-S_17-55mm_lens -- this is the guy I'm looking for.
So...Busan, Seoul, Busan, Seoul.
Are there really no good places in Daegu? I thought there was a big 3 story building with all kinds of stuff in North Daegu...though I can't remember the name. |

Check the prices on Danawa or Enuri first.
The last time I checked, you could get a new (gray market) 17-55mm F2.8 EF-S for 930,000 Won. |

| There was a guy here selling that very lense. Check the Buy/Sell forum. Go back a few pages and find it. I think he was asking 800,000. |
