So, I spent the last 7 days on home lock-down. I adhered to this mostly. I went to the local public health office this morning as advised by my school. Low and behold, they stopped doing the tests on 08/21 so I had to go to a local hospital and pay for the test on my own dime. The nurse took my temp n gave the "OH FEVER" response and quickly masked herself and gave me one to do the same (37.2c/98.9f btw). I just got a call from the hospital after running my culture, and surprisingly enough I have no flu. Hmmm....gotta love the over-reaction of the nurse and the attempt at making me feel like a dirty foreigner.

I came back to K-land last Sunday after spending August in Canada and the U.S.A.. I'm on my last day of 'quarantine' (have to work on Monday), but my co-teacher made no mention of staying home on 'lock down' or having to be tested - only that I should not come to school until then.

Without exception, every K I've talked to this week has reacted with a combination of horror/revulsion and physically distanced themselves from me when they found out where I've been.

Some have asked why I'm not wearing a mask. I usually reply "Don't worry... I'm not showing symptoms... besides, degi flu is already in Korea, but I'm not worried about catching it from you... it's not like I'm asymtomatic for bovine spongiform encephalopathy or anything."
