|
|
So I renewed my contract for a second year a couple of months ago. And my visa expired yesterday~ my co-teacher and I forgot COMPLETELY about the visa and now we're panicking...me more than her because I had been planning a vacation to Japan during the Chuseok holidays.
What should I do?!?! Does anyone know the documentation needed for extension? The immigration site states that I should've done it two months ago...what is the penalty for doing it after the visa is expired? My co-teacher's papers indicate I need a medical report but I don't see it on the site. >.<
Anyone know how long it would take approximately? I would idealy like to be able to go to Japan on holiday too...providing I will allowed back into the country.
Please help, Thanks!! =] |

Do you mean your ARC has expired? The visa doesn't matter once you get your ARC. If you mean your ARC expired, then I'm pretty sure that means you need to get a new visa with everything that entails, new CBC, medical and all that stuff. I think it also means you're technically in this country illegally at this point. If your ARC hasn't expired, then renewing is a same day process. Only takes a few minutes and I'm pretty sure all you need is a copy of the signed contract, application and maybe photo. No medical needed. When renewing, be sure to get a multiple re-entry permit if you plan on going on vacation. |

I don't think you can just show up to immigration with your card and they'll renew it for you.
The hagwon/school should provide you with some paperwork to take with you (not just your contract).
You shouldn't have to submit all your initial paper work such as medical test, academic records, and background checks.
That's been my experience anyway. |

When you renewed your contract (assuming you were on an E-2) did you not go to Immigration? If you did, they should have stamped an extension date on to the back of your ARC. That's the date that matters.
If you did NOT go to Immigration...go there NOW. Do not pass GO, do not collect 200 won, go there now and get things sorted out. |

Yeah, I totally forgot. The school should give you a document thats like a business license. It has the schools name and the official stamp on it. Not sure whats it called, but it is needed. The school should know what you need exactly, but if your ARC expires today, you need to go get it sorted today, otherwise you have to get a new ARC. |

To extend my period of sojourn for renewal at my PS, I needed:
- application (with photo);
- passport;
- ARC;
- new contract;
- Business Registration Number;
- Proof of Employment;
- results of HIV and TBPE tests;
- fees for application (and multiple entry permit).
It took 10 minutes... but, of course, when I did it I was not in the country illegally.
It's difficult to say how Immi will react in the OP's case... but my advice would be to start by addressing the Immi Officer using the honorific form of Korean. |

A HUGE thanks to the first reply!! After I read that message...I raced over to immigration with the following things:
-ARC Card (which expires today)
-My new contract
-My school's business registration number
-Passport
-That application form filled out
and VOILA - 10 minutes later I got my ARC renewed, a multiple entry visa and I'm good to go for the next year.
Thanks SO MUCH again to the people that helped.
My co-teacher had documents stating that I needed a medical exam and all this other stuff...and I was really worried because turns out my visa expired last week. But now I can relax and head out to Japan...courtesy of severance pay haha~~~ |
