|
|
I saw a job ad that claimed salaries of "$26,000 - 36,000 USD" a year.
That converts into salaries of 2.7 million won to 3.7 million Korean won a month.
Upon closer inspection they only pay 2. 1 to 2.4 million a month which is $20,000 - 23,000 USD.
They were using OLD exchange rates that made their salaries appear MUCH MUCH better than they actually are.
BE CAREFUL. MANY RECRUITERS AND HOGWONS DO THIS.
It's a sneaky underhanded way of decieving people who haven't travelled much before. |

Also do not forget they probably role in the benefits too, Like housing, year end bonus which is actually severance, pension, etc.
Plus as above people saying the recruiter or school doing a sloppy conversion.

that's fairly accurate if you convert it from, say having a job in the U.S. - you save a lot of money from not paying taxes (Korean or US if your in a P.S.) plus having housing paid for, plus your bonus and pension, etc |

I'm going to ask them to pay me in US dollar since that is what they are offering.
Do you think any korean attorney would take my case if I wanted to sue them for a bait and switch fraud? |

Prolly, probally, probably not. When you include: housing, airfare, health ins, pension, and severance, a contract for 2.2 million won/month is worth at least 37,000,000 won per year. Recent exchange rates put that at over $29,000 per year.
When you include benefits, $26,000 to $36,000 per year is currently a reasonable range. |

I've notice this as well, a recruiter is sending me jobs and converting the monthly and yearly salary with just plain wrong exchange rates. Part of me wants to call them out on it, but I'm starting to get the feeling that being critical of anything to a recruiter will get you absolutely nowhere. |
