I'm waiting to receive my visa issuance number... The school that is hiring me is a Private School. They just sent me a contract and it doesn't look favorable. Can I get my E-2 visa and go to Korea looking for another job?

How are you waiting on a visa issuance number without ever having seen the contract? The signed contract should have been sent with the rest of your documents to be taken to immigration to get your visa issuance number.

Your E2 visa is tied to your school. You cannot work for another school with that visa. It lists the school's name on it.

Well that's interesting. I did not sign a contract. My aunt is a teacher in Korea and set me up with this school. I haven't even seen it until today. The guy who works for the school told me that immigration is processing my docs for the visa issuance number and that I will receive it 2 weeks from Feb. 03. Shooould I ask how he was able to accomplish this?

Yeah! Most everyone else has to send a signed contract for immigration to handle... and even recruiters will ask to send a scan of a signed contract just to acknowledge a person's intent with the school....

ask whoever you can for info... forwarned is forearmed and all that

What exactly does not look favorable? I assume that if your aunt arranged this for you then she'd be looking out for your interests (excuse my naivety). Maybe you could post your contract above - see the Contract Posting sticky. The veterans will give it the once over and tell you if it looks good/not good.
