Emart sells vanilla extract but it is in powdered form and it is white like powdered sugar. It works and tastes the same as the liquid.

That's good information xingyiman. What do you use it in? Baking?

I don't know about Daegu, but the only place I've found vanilla extract is in the foreign food mart in Itaewon. It's a tiny bottle (1 fl. oz./29ml) for 6500 won.

I suspect you can also get it in the baking district near Dongdaemun, which is very cool. Go to Jongno 5-ga exit 7 and walk straight until you cross Cheongyecheon (the stream for those that are new to Seoul). Turn right on the far side and you'll see an alley almost immediately on your left with a big arched sign over it saying 방산종 한시장. Go under the arch and here is the district that has all your baking needs! I bought cup cake and brownie trays, plus some cups for the cup cakes. You can also buy all kinds of baking chocolate, kitchen scales, ovens, etc. I didn't see vanilla, but I bet you can get it there.

So if you want the real stuff scorpiocandy, you may need to stock up when you make the trip to Seoul. Last time I went home I brought about 200ml back with me because it's much cheaper in Australia.

Happy baking Very Happy

Update: I found "Pure vanilla extract" at Gyodong (sp?) market opposite Daegu station. Didn't think I would but took a chance anyway and what do you know.

So for future reference that's where you can find it.

Thanks for all replies Smile

Try the Dongdaemun baking district for almond extract and shortening. Dunno about graham crackers.

Are you using the graham crackers in baking, like for a pie crust? In that case, I use McVitie's digestive biscuits, which are widely available. They work perfectly.

For baking or making smores. But I will try the suggestion for pie crust. I've been dying to make a cheesecake.

I thought smores was just graham cracker, chocolate, marshmellow, with another cracker on top. How do you use almond extract?

No I want to make almond cookies with the extract. I tried using almond powder but it definitely was not the same.
