Hey
I'm hoping to go abroad during my Chuseok break. A four day weekend on a tropical island. I haven't let my (GEPIK) school know.
Should I tell them? Can they stop me? |

I wouldn't.
The day before my flight to Bali for summer break, I causally mentioned it and my coteacher almost freaked out and then we had to talk to the principal and have him give me "permission" to go, which he eventually did, but what a big hassle that was. |

| I'm Gepik too and I was told it may only be a 3 day weekend. But with any luck your trip may be extended if they quarintine you for 7 days. |

I don't plan on telling my school, but I assume they'll ask what I'm going to do. I'd rather not lie.
Does anyone know Gepik's official stance on the matter? |

| GEPIK sent a memo to the schools that they do not want ANYONE, foreign or Korean, to travel overseas this holiday. The memo went out yesterday. Note, from how my co teacher explained it, they are ASKING, but if you bring it up, your principal and co teacher will not be too keen on the idea. |

| Chuseok begins on the first Friday in October. This year has been a bad one for public holidays falling on weekends and the upcoming thanksgiving doesn't seem to be any exception. Boourns. |

| I just returned from a week in the philippines and was not given the quarantine I wanted and expected. I informed my school of the mandatory SMOE, and new Geoyongi Quarantine, and they acted as though it was not a big deal. Finally I friday (of my week back) I made a comment about how thankful I was that our school wasn't so crazy worried about swine flu because it would make my trip to Japan over chuseok so much easier. Sure enough within 10 minutes I was informed that the admin. had a made a mistake and that I should have been on mandatory quarantine, but now it was too late because the 7 days was passed. Jackasses! I keep on muttering under my breath that I hope no students get sick because the parents will be VERY upset with them when they find out. |

| Now I feel cheated, I was in Jeju, where is my 7 day vacation. Isn't Jeju famous for black pigs? |

I had a feeling that was coming.
That's tough cookies. I canceled my plans to go to Vietnam over summer vacation because I didn't want to inconvenience my school or make the school look bad by going against this "request". However, my home leave falls over Chuseok and the following week. I haven't seen my family for a year. I don't usually take a completely stubborn stand on things, but what it comes down to is, I'm flying home during Chuseok. Whether I return to Korea or not is up to the school. Either way suits me fine. |

Do your employers get mad at you for coming back and then having to stay home for 7-days? In other words, are they angry that you're missing work because you decided to travel, knowing that they would probably have to send you home as a result?
Do you typically get paid when they quarantine you?
I'm a noob and I'm sort of curious, sounds like a sweet deal provided you didn't actually get sick. |
