I'm considering spending 5 days in Harbin, Northern China at Chuseok.

But is Chuseok as significant to the Chinese as it is to Koreans? I don't want to arrive there to find life at a standstill and all the shops closed etc etc.

Please advise!

It`s the Moon festival for Chinese. They`ll be doing similar things to Koreans. Traveling to hometowns, getting together with families, eating mooncakes, etc. I dont think you`ll have such a good time. It would be dead...Go to a country where it isnt celebrated or a big deal like Japan.

Dead as in no night-life, or dead as in stores/tourist-sites/transportation closed?

Not sure about harbin, but I went to Bejing during Choseok and it was great. I had no idea it was even a holiday there!
