Well, I've heard the leaks for the new album, and it's good. Megadeth, IMO, have sucked pretty much since Rust In Piece, but out of the "Big 4" of thrash, hands down this is the only one of 'em that has put out a good album recently.

I regret missing Megadeth when they came to play in Korea, still kicking myself over that.

This is interesting though, doubt it would happen, twenty years too late I would say:

megadeth sucks. You need to start getting into the BeeGees and Neil Diamond. That's where it's at.

Waiting for the official release. Caught Megadeth, Slayer, Machine Head and Suicide Silence (never heard of them before) earlier this year in Canada. Megadeth were great! Slayer and Machine Head were just ok. Suicide Silence just sucked like a rainy day in Daegu.

Best shows I've seen in 2009 (so far):

Vancouver:
Heaven and Hell
Chickenfoot

Calgary:
Prog Nation 2009 - Dream Theater

California

Y&T (San Francisco Fillmore)
Queensryche (Anaheim HOB)

Upcoming:

ProgPower X (Crimson Glory tribute to Midnight, Fates Warning, Primal Fear, Pagan's Mind, Royal Hunt, Brainstorm etc) in Atlanta.

Edguy, Stratovarius and The Tragically Hip in Calgary.

U2 in Vancouver.

Dave Mustaine is a Born Again Christian and, as such, I'm afraid I can't take him seriously. I can't imagine having the patience to give the new record a try, but you never know.

Rust In Peace is their only 100% classic record. Peace Sells.... being dated and overrated in my view.

Anyone that doesn't enjoy the first four Megadeth albums is not TRVE KVLT in my eyes. Besides, any person worth his salt, when hearing that the new album is a return to form, and is getting rave reviews over at the metal-archives.com forums, should be wetting themselves with glee at this very instant.

Believer were (are, actually, now that they have reformed) Christian and released a great progressive thrash metal album in 1990 (Sanity Obscure); would the fact that they like old JC deter you from listening to a good album?

I like Burzum, does this make me a neo-NAZI, because of some stuff Vikernes said in the past?

The System has Failed is a good CD. Chris Poland came in and laid down a few solos on there, too. But for the most part, Megadeth is hit-or-miss. I'm guessing that no one stays in Megadeth due to Dave Mustaine being one of the biggest d!cks in rock, along with other pissed off dudes like Axl Rose and Yngwie Malmsteen. Malmsteen is fun to read in interviews, though.

I like the first four CDs of Metallica, most of Anthrax's stuff, and Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer. But I've grown too bored with heavy metal concerts. The fans just reinforce too many negative stereotypes.

SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Clash of the Titans was one of the best shows ever and the scariest (at 16) because of the older Slayer fans on speed and Satan in full force. They are all I listen to on the regular within the last 4 or 5 years (besides Tool and Deftones etc..). There is a great article in the new Guitar World with King and Hanneman on the cover. King rails Mustaine about being a hypocrite but takes nothing away from his musicianship. It only mentions the Canada tour and not the one with Metallica. Pretty sure King feels the same about how Metallica changed. SLAYER no ballads ever and never will, no signs of aging and slowing down in their delivery. They are comparing the new one to Christ Illusion... can't wait! P.S. Early Megadeth is sic and Peace Sells is not overrated. The OG Anthrax lineup are amazing live and had a crazy pit that seemed a lot more fun then the Slayer one where I literally thought I was going to die, and the bathroom at Irvine Meadows looked like a few people actually died there was so much blood after. The gig was great. Alice in Chains first and literally 5 people even paid attention (I was one) then Anthrax crazy, then Megadeth set list from Rust in Peace backwards (technically freekin amazing) and Slayer way crazy evil ominous and nearly deadly Seasons and before... Lombardo's double bass is still reverberating in my chest and it was an outdoor show.

Megadeth is a one-album band in my opinion.

Rust in Peace is easily in the top 10 metal albums ever made, however.

I bought that record when I was 11. I'm still not bored of it.

Lucky dude. I never got to see Anthrax live.

I saw a similarly titled show called New Titans on the Block with Sick of it all, Napalm Death, Sacred Reich and Sepultura. On an Indian (not the subcontinent) reservation no less. I came out of that concert black, blue and bloody. It was funny though because Napalm Death's average song was all of 30 seconds.

Roadwork, I do feel lucky for seeing that lineup that year. Saw Napalm in 93 or 94 with Obituary opening at the Palace in Hollywood. SLLOOOOOWWWLLLLLYYYY WEEE ROOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!!! THe most love in the pit ever. These giant long haired mexicans moshing. I was pinballing off of them in the pit and when I would go down I would be swooped up instantly by one or two of them and kept on going. It was for the love, not killing each other... like so many violent punk pits I have been in. Good times. P.S. He with Horns... Megadeth R.I.P. is one of the most technically amazing metal albums ever and in no way caters to the mainstream at all. Wait a few years till Countdown for mainstream effectiveness... some good ones on that one too for sure... after it gets harder and further between songs to find gems and way to much dedication to the band to invest precious time. R.I.P., And Justice and Seasons were the first hard core metal to get MTV playing time outside of Headbangers Ball in an attempt to exploit that market too. Blame MTV and greed for Countdown, Black Album. Thankfully Slayer didn't buy into it.

Yeah the pit on the Indian Rez was full of fury and rage. You were lucky if you got scooped up when down, my friend got a boot in the ribs and cracked one of them. I wound up with a bloody lip and nose and tons of torso bruising. The cops wound up shutting it down a couple of songs into Sepultura's set, and the riot squads were out in full force to get everyone the hell out of there.

Megadeth are mainstream though; they were signed to Capitol Records from the beginning, were they not? Most people know the name Megadeth, that counts as mainstream.

Mainstream or not, they are still a good band, and Slayer's stuff for the last decade plus has been horrendous - I don't care if they're been 'keeping it real', real or not it's utter rubbish.

Isn't the new Skeletonwitch album coming out this month? Now there's some decent American thrash to look forward to.

My very very very favoritest heavy metal band - Opeth - are playing in my home city on the 9th of October. The bad news is....that's the day I arrive home. My plane lands in the evening, just as Opeth are wrapping up their set.
