I've been having some eye strain recently and wonder if I'm squinting because of a vision problem. Are Korean eye doctors cheap, and do they take insurance? Or can I just waltz into any of the eyeglass shops I see all over the place and get an exam and get glasses if need be?

Thanks!

When I've done it in the past, you go to the eyeglass shop, look into a machine that scans your eyes and lets the doc know the prescription, then you pick out your frames and go.

Almost all eyeglass stores in Korea have eye testing machines to determine your correct perscription. Keep in mind, however, that only techinicians do the tests, and so they are good for testing vision, but not a replacement for a real doctor who looks for diseases, etc.

Just went to an eye clinic yesterday for a common eye infection. Not only was the visit cheap (4,200 Won), but the doctor also spoke good English. The prescription was another 4,500 Won so I'm thinking this is my kind of town.

I, too, recently visited the eye clinic in my building. With my insurance, seeing the doctor was about 4,000 and the medicine was about 3,000. I have no idea what it would be like without insurance, but at a run-of-the-mill eye clinic it probably won't be too bad.
