I'm currently teaching at a public academic high school outside of Seoul, and I'm always trying to find small things to add to my classes to garner interest and maybe some laughs.
Recently, I remembered a couple of tips other foreigners had taught me regarding a couple funny translations from English to Korean. The big three I remember off the top of my head were:
English to Korean Translation
Salsa = Diarrhea
DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) = Masturbation
Magic Stick = Boner
Unless I want to get in hot water with the other teachers, I probably shouldn't use those last two. But does anyone know of any other funny translations like this? I think a "Funny Translation of the Day" type thing would be perfect for my afterschool classes. |

| I think this is one of those 'we find it hilarious but Koreans find it not funny at all' thing. Personally I've never had success in lesson when I made fun of Korea. I doubt you will, either. Their nationalistic pride is just that strong. If you want to do mistranslation, do other countries. Japan, China, India provide plenty of examples. |
