I just noticed several days ago that I couldn't get into certain sites..(this particular site: a file hosting/uploading site) and wondering if anyone else ran into the same problem? |

There has been news recently that Hollywood and Japan are going to try to crack down on Korean Internet users and sites for being notorious for file sharing sites to pirate movies and music. This is probably a reaction to that.
(The Internet filter at the high school I worked at in the US was ridiculous in how much it blocked.) |

I used to use a lot of video in my classroom from youtube to create some context which was severely lacking in the useless government textbooks. Suddenly youtube was blocked (SMOE school) along with facebook and some other sites.
Too many teachers were spending hours between classes on these sites using them as time-killers. One NSET then brought in his nintendo or whatever. It was embarrassing when students were trying to talk to him and he was engrossed in getting Mario to the next level.
I see nothing wrong with some sites being blocked to prevent non-school related entertainment websites, but many really useful sites for teachers (eg- youtube) were all tarred with the same brush as many NSET spent hours watching mindless stuff in full view of the school cheeses. |

| I tried downloading some bit torrents the other day at home and I got a warning from the National Police Agency. This also happens if you try to go to the North Korean Central News Agency's website. |

| It could just be your school's net nanny as well - My school's software blocks websites like Craigslist, Reddit and some other possibly-questionable-content websites. |

Hmmm. I hope my school doesn't block Youtube, because I'm using it in my lessons.
They did block Blogger though, so I can't blog during my breaks between classes.
(I use a Canadian VPN at my apartment, so I bypass all South Korean blocks at home, including access to North Korean sites.) |

I wonder why they blocked off this site... of which I'm sure many P.S teachers used.. but cannot anymore at school. =P |

Which North Korean sites are you browsing?
I'm lucky that I can still use my university's VPN for now. No file sharing allowed though |

| I've got youtube at school. But not craigslist, or myspace. But I found a proxy to get through to myspace. But it won't let me see the pictures on the profiles. How do I fix that ? |

That should get you around anything but shuffling you through other computers. A bit of lag time and sometimes sites change languages based on countries. It's fun to log into facebook with that. |

fark.com's also blocked, which is a big disappointment. |
