We are done on Oct 30th.
1) When should we get the 900,000 deposit?
2) When should we get severance?
3) Is severance taxed? we are canadian.
4) When should we receive a ticket? Is there a time limit when the school could ask us to fly out?
5) How much would the monetary value be is we opt to take the flight money and not ticket? |

My last day is this wednesday and I'm going through the process as we speak.
You should get your deposit, severence and last paycheck before you go home. Probably 1 week to a few days before.
I don't know if severence is taxed...I think it will be taxed the same way as your salary, though.
The e-ticket depends entirely on your school and the agreement you make. Talk with them about who is buying the ticket (if they are reimbursing you after it's paid for by you, etc.). You need to leave Korea before your ARC expires. Check the date. Many people need to file for an extension.
The monetary value of your ticket, should you choose not to take it, is the most direct flight with Korean air to your home city.
Good luck. |

1. You should get that on the last day.
2. You should also get that on the last day.
3. Yes it is taxed
4. Many schools if not most don't provide a ticket as such. At these schools you are expected to buy the ticket, and THEN they reimburse you. See what the other poster said above.
5. This should be stated in your contract. If not then what the other poster said above. |

Tomorrow is my last day, and the school said last week I would get all I am owed tomorrow. They had me fill out an application form for severance. So, I would make sure you also do this at least a week before your last day.
As far as airfare, I don't see how we should collect the money if we aren't going to use it for a flight home or another country. I just don't see the legal basis. We wouldn't get the money if we were going, and the whole point is for transportation. The next school should have the responsibility of paying for the exit airfare if that one is the last school a teacher works at. |
