Hi, when is the deadline to submit all the docs needed such as notarised and apostilled cbc and copy of degree and sealed transcripts for end of Feb/March start? Do I need to hand them all in by November? Thank you.

I'm not sure but I've already applied for my disclosure check as it takes two weeks (I'm in the UK) and I'll still have to get it apostilled after that.

Does anyone know if applying early helps when looking for a Public School position through SMOE or EPIK etc?

Applying early is always good, but there're no brownie points in it.

Queuing is only a notion in Korea. Deadline is only a notion in Korea. Being on time is only a notion in Korea. A Celtic ESL teacher in Korea? Sometimes a great notion.

I'm in the same boat. Do I get my documents now (and run the risk of them expiring if I don't get a March start job, or do I wait another month and risk missing out on a PS job.

Recruiters aren't any help, they haven't got the applications yet, and the EPIK website says applications aren't ready until Oct.

Any advice appreciated.

I certainly don't think you need to have everything in by November. When I applied to my public school job I got the docs in 2-3 weeks in advance. But the competition has increased since then, so it doesn't hurt to apply early. It also depends on where you are applying. SMOE jobs will likely fill up before Christmas, and there is enough demand for them these days that they will intially only consider applicants with a TESOL or previous experience. If you are looking at teaching in Daegu, Incheon or the provinces there really is no rush at all. Positions for many of the Provincial offices were available as recently as a few weeks in advance for the September start this year - and thats with the economic crisis back home in full swing. Still the earlier you get your docs in the more choices you may have in where you work - this is especially true if this is your first ESL job. Basically I would say that its too early to really worry and rush to get your documents, but the earlier you can get them in the more options you may have.
