I was supposed to come into work today at 7:30 instead of the usual 9 am.
Because I don't have a homeroom, I'm supposed to check the temperatures of the students with some kind of ear thermometer
It completely slipped my mind. Now the vice pricipal is peeved. Oh, well. I'll come tomorrow at 7:30.
Anyone else being required to take temperatures of their students?
This is my first year with the public schools. Before this, I was a hagwon jockey. I'm starting to miss being a hagwon jockey. |

I would have flat out refused. Are you with GEPIK or EPIK? Our contract says that we must work 8 hours a day - not 9. If the Vice Principle is angry, explain this to him.
My question is what are they going to do this Winter when swine flu continues to sky rocket? Are they just going to shut down all the schools? I'll be very curious to see how these paranoid people react. Hey, no problem with us right? There's nothing wrong with extra vacation! |

I'll be honest. I don't want to poke around in the ears of the students. It makes me uncomfortable. |

I wouldn't either,
who knows what kind of crap is in there...
if they are still elementary/middle school, be prepared to find stickers and candy. |

Asmith - Don't worry about the ears, you'll be fine. Side note, dig your blog, funny ddung!!
I had two teachers take my temperature in the same day, just for giggles!!
Both thermometers had me in the 33 degree range. That's a bit low I believe. My point - Do they calibrate these thermometers. 33 degrees C, I'm a walking corpse!! |

You're 4 degrees C too cold and should be hypothermic! Been sleeping in a closed room with the fan on... haven't we?
Perhaps if all the thermometers reading 'low', there's plausible denial that no one has a 'temp.'... and thus no degi flu.

Wow I can't believe you agreed to taking temps and coming in early. As others have said your day starts at 8:30 and finishes at 4:30 unless they want you to teach an extra class. Just say no to any extra duties. |

You betcha. I have been a walking corpse since I arrived in K-land. I just have this sneaking suspicion that the Koreans at my school didn't even bother to calibrate the thermometers. |

I'd do it but I'd also leave at 3:30. I usually to a kind of gate duty twice a week with that kind of arrangement. There is a rotating shift of about four Korean teachers a day at my school doing the temp thing.
I think anyone with a temp over 37.8 must be sent home. |

Just the type of thinking they want you to have and even probably create a false sense of a depression to get the workers to think like this. Way to go you buy into fear and act think like a wimp. |
