Hi guys,

I finally got my ARC and I can now finally order internet for home.

I just had a few questions...

1) Which is the best company to go with, if it doesnt matter, can you just list the top company and a phone number if you have it?

2) Do they have english speakers or is it all in korean?

3) Does it have to be at least a one year contract?

4) Is there a download limit?

5) anything against going with the cheapest base package? will it be really slow or something?

thanks for all the info in advance, I really appreciate it!

1) I like KT, others on this forum don't. You may be limited by what's available in your area, street, or individual building. If so, you may also need to get a cable TV/internet package from a cable TV provider, but try to avoid this as these connections are usually slower.

2) If you don't speak Korean it's probably best to get a Korean to help you. Someone posted an English number for KT a few days ago, check out a couple of pages back.

3) It's usually a one year contract.

4) + 5) Most places offer 100megabits per second up and down as a basic package. This works out to 10 megabytes per second which is super fast. If you live in a old area/building, your speeds will be slower, but probably still faster than home. Expect slow speeds from cable TV companies too. I rarely cracked 3 megabytes per second with those guys.

So if I get an internet + cable TV in one package, my internet will be slower?

Whereas if I get internet with one company and cable TV with another company, my internet won't be affected?

Can somebody clear this up? I heard something like this, but I don't remember exactly.

Well the reason for getting a internet with tv package is that both comes through the same pipe line from one cable compared to 2 lines for one the internet and one for the TV signal. That's the reason why it's cheap. If you get the internet and the tv from different lines, you'll pay more. If you care about speed try to get the 100MB line if it's available in your area.

Well given that I probably won't be using internet and TV at the same time, if I go with the all-in-one-line option, will my internet be any slower than a dedicated internet line if my TV+cable box (if there is one) are off?

If my internet is always going to be slower just for having the cable on the same line, regardless of whether i'm using the cable or not, then I'm probably just going to go with internet only. I'm not a big TV watcher; I get 6 channels right now, but it would be nice to have more for when I just want to zone out (or maybe understand what they're saying, i.e. an English channel).

How many English channels are there anyway?

Why get cable? The internet has all the good shows anyway.

Here's a step-by-step guide:

1.) Get Internet.
2.) Hook Internet up to PC and HDTV.
3.) Find shows on the internet.
4.) ???
5.) Profit.
