|
|
hi all
I am not having any issues with my teeth but I am overdue for a comprehensive checkup/cleaning.
I live in Cheongju but go into Seoul pretty often too. Can anyone recommend a good dentist I can visit on my own without a Korean translator?
Preferably someone gentle...! My mouth is not very big (sizewise) and it can be a pain for some dentists who have big hands/fingers. |

| There's an english speaking dentist in Cheongju. Its on the main street that goes through the centre of the city. If you start out at Chungdae and head towards downtown, then its on the left side before you go down the hill past the stadium. Coming from downtown, go past the stadium and up a largish hill - I think its just after you crest that hill on the right. Anway, if you're on that street then its hard to miss --- theres a 12 foot white tooth statue in front of the drab grey 3 story building that houses the dentist office. |

Seoul National University Hospital at Hyehwa station is the largest dental clinic in the country and the doctors are trained on global/western standards. Most of the doctors and technicians speak English, but one very competent translator will accompany you the whole time. She was very sweet and beautiful, too, if I didn't have a gf I would've asked her to dinner.
The bad thing is that a cleaning, exam and xray will cost you about 220,000 won. But for the level of expertise and professionalism, its worth it. |

| my dentist's office changed their name, but it's a GREAT place to go in terms of professionalism and standard of care. it's called chicago dental clinic (in hannam-dong, right after you cross the bridge). there's a translator that works T/Th/Sat, but some of the counter staff and dentists speak english well enough to communicate without the translator. (i think two of the dentists did some study in the US.) as they've recently received some exposure from korean celebrities, they've increased their prices a bit, but over all, it's still really affordable compared to the prices in the states (not sure where you're from, though). |

I had work done by a woman (smaller hands!). Dr Kim at 'Bright and Clean', it is near the Kangnam bus terminal and I found her to be fine. She gave me a massive gold crown. At first she told me I would need a root canal, but after 'treating it' she told me she could save it which saved me a few houndred thousand won. She cleaned my teeth twice and gave me a comprehensive scaling for 60,000w (she later didn't chargeme for it as she discovered I travelled from outside Seoul to go to her clinic.) She gave me a porcelin crown on my front tooth which was completely dead and discoloured.
All up 1000,000. She doesnt rush things though, so if time is a problem then I would recommend you go somewhere else.
I found her to be reasonably gentle and pretty straight up. her English was decent. |

| what about wisdom teeth removal? i have a sinking (and painful) feeling that mine are now just starting to come through. i'm going back to NZ in Feb, and I know it costs an arm and leg there .... so I'm thinking of getting it done here. |

I HIGHLY recommend Columbia Plus Dental Clinic, very close to Gangnam station. Open some Saturday mornings too.
Native speaker level English, kind, gentle, around 60.000 for cleaning.
Tell him Val sent ya!!! (Have recommended lots of people). |

About how much are these prices? I just want a good cleaning. |
a cleaning will run you about W50,000. if you get more work done, they tend to give a good discount.

Tufts Dental is worth trying.
It's located in COEX area, on eof the richest area. Oakwood premier is within walking distance.
The dentist is a Tufts gradute ( hence the name is tufts )and speaks fulent English. She practiced in the states, New England area. The hygeinst also speaks some English. I've been going to this office for some dental works like crowns ,white fillings and the doctor seems very experienced.
Tel) 02-553-7512

The ones recommending Tufts dental seem more like spam.. all the users posting all over about them only ever write about the dental clinic if you stalk-search their names.. |

I like Dr. Shin at IT dental clinic near Nam Guro station. His English is enough to explain your treatment well. He's educated at Seoul National with a Phd. He's sweet and gentle. At 5 feet 3 inches I can assure he's got tiny hands as well.
Tel: 863-2872
PM if you'd like his email. I'd rather not put it up here and let him end up with lots of spam. |

If you look at the previous posts of the poster 2 up from you, you'll see all 3 posts he made was about... one entity. How strange! |

Oh, but you'd give out his phone number so he can get lots of bogus calls? |
