Wow, haven't really even had the chance to turn down offers yet, due to the ESL Korea market desiring women teachers and the BS world economic scare. So far I have been denied because of "unexpected contract resignings" from teachers and the employer specifically choosing females over me. I want to teach abroad for many reasons and I am certain that I will be quite good at it given a little practice. I look pretty basic on paper, I am clean cut and decent looking (a bit old I suppose {34} but a recent college graduate) and given the chance to speak to anyone in person I can sell myself. Any tips for spicing up my resume or tantalizing the recruiters into selling me better?

A good passport photo with you wearing a suit and tie is always a good place to start. It may be a major factor in your potential employability.......

First thing I would do is to stop blaming other people "women and unexpected contract resignings ". I was 45 when I started teaching public school and yes I did quit last August. Now, I am back working in a hagwon again.

So, I do know that I created at least 1 opening. My school tried to get me to sign up for a third year. Since, I was already in top pay category there was little they could offer.

If I were you, I would try to get get certification and some work experience.
Try to make contacts. The days of just having a pulse are over. If you really want to make it a career, then I will wish you all the best of luck.

I'm not young or female, but I do have both experience and certification. Since, I've lived in the same area for almost 5 years, I also know many people. Each year, I see more people who are doing this as a career as opposed to it being a 1 year holiday.
The only way this job will improve is when those who teach it become more professional.

Thanks Mike 123... not making excuses or pointing blame either. Sarcasm much? In regards to your advice I agree. I do have certification that I dropped some coin on and my photo as well as how I will present myself in the future I assure you is professional. I was just venting a little frustration with the lack of ease in getting hired. I need a nibble to start/complete a contract and get experience and i promise it will be no complaining from this peanutz gallery after the fact. I just can't help but feel anxious and sad concerning how many jobs there were literally 8 months ago before I graduated and completed my certification. Simply looking for suggestions (nice photo, certification check) that might help me stand out. K tough guy?

Bite the bullet and accept some of the more rural jobs, more hours, less pay. It is getting more competitive and in your position, you might be stuck with less than desirable conditions.

i think you should refrain from using the old '...NOT' chestnut. Perhaps they're looking for someone who doesn't throw around bad, contrived jokes from the early 90s. Just sayin', just sayin'...

Hey Brow_beater. Perhaps you should concentrate on the post and not fixate on the title that you found so contrite and outdated and necessary to comment on you useless piece.

OK, OK, Firstly, what part of me calling out brow_guy after he thinks it necessary to call my words contrite and outdated warrants a bad attitude? I can't quip back with unnecessary banter to defend myself? I'm sorry, I'll just roll over and check my attitude at the door. Just sayin, just sayin.

Secondly, Knee high guy/girl?... doesn't really matter what you think either, since "we" don't care about what "you" think. Are you speaking for the rest of Dave's or just your like minded Dave's buddies? Are you somehow intuitive about who would make a good teacher and already figured out that I am all wrong for the job? Are you on the hiring squad? Do you always use "we" when addressing "your" opinion about things? Because that is super annoying... so go get f@#$%# in your knee highs.

Isn't it funny how sometimes our objections can actually strengthen the accusation?

Relax mate and keep applying.
