|
|
Hey I just got here and am looking forward to getting some travel time in using my vacation. (public school) However, my school in Ulsan aparantly wants people to wait 7 days before they can return to work, if you leave the country.
How in the hell are we supposed to travel abroad if every time we leave we are required to miss another 7 days sitting in our apartment?
Anyone know anything about this or have any thoughts?
are we ment to double or halve our vacations? Half abroad, half in our apartment waiting for the flu to come or go? |

| Well, you don't get tons of weeks off, so you won't be quarantined all the time. From what I've heard, you take your 2 week trip to ___ and then come back and can't teach for 7 days, sometimes your quarantine is paid, sometimes not. |

| Well... you won't be getting any holidays until your school's 'winter vacation' period (end Dec. - beginning Feb.); and by that time maybe all the 'degi flu' hysteria will have died down. |

I'm not sure what your question is, OP... You already understand the terms of the quarantine. You go away, you come back, you stay home for 7 days, you go to school.
This already happened to all of us who went away on summer vacation. I agree with cruisemonkey - by the time our vacation rolls around, I think the H1N1 panic will probably be over. |

| I hear some schools are taking 7 days off (inc weekend) for the Chuseuk Holidays. Not my slave driver school though. |

| At my PS, Chuseok (this year) is only a 3-day weekend... another 'victim' of all those 'stats' falling on Saturdays & Sundays. |

My school is Thurs-Mon. I'm pretty excited since most people I know are only getting 3-4 days off. |

| Just don't tell them you're going abroad. Simple. |

It may be a complete non-issue for you. It made no difference at my school. I went away (to China, no less) came home, went to work less than 7 days later. I would not have complained if I had been required to take some extra time. |

just got re-told that if I go abroad during vacation breaks, I have to wait 7 days before I can work again and that it counts as my holidays. I havnt tried to fight it yet, I still wanna see if it blows over.
Has anyone else heard this "plan?"
So our vacations are supposed to now be only spent in Korea?? My vacations, winter break and spring break are aparantly less than 2 weeks each.. .. I guess... so they are insisting that I can only go abroad for 3 or 4 days...
basically this is my first stint here, and first time in Asia. I had some flexible plans on what and where I'd like to go... I am getting paranoid I am going to be trapped in this tiny country without ever getting to see anywhere else... The vacation WITH the oportunity to go other places was a major draw of coming here. And while I understand they're flu 7 day waiting peroid (and think its stupid), its not in my contract...
anyone want to chime in? (tell me I am being paranoid?)

Well, it's not a vacation but a long weekend (extra long). And you haven't seen Korea yet, you should see that first.
You should see:
-traffic jam leaving cities on the first day
-traffic jam coming back on the last day
-traffic jam leading to any popular destinations
-traffic snarl caused by drivers asking directions despite the GPS navigation
-traffic mayhem caused by city drivers on country roads
-traffic delay caused by city drivers refusing to ignore red lights
-traffic crawls due to elderly country drivers in the cities
-traffic cops directing traffic despite the non-movement in all-four directtions.
There's so much to see in Korea but you wanna go overseas. (sotto voce) Tourist. |

I never was told not to travel abroad....your guy might warn you, but they won't stop you.....the quarantine was a paid extra week where I just got to stay at home...good time to travel korea! (And it sure as hell didn't count as vacation days for me). |

I think you should go abroad for your vacation anyway, and take it to the Labor Board later if they dock another 7 days of forced leave. If you can lie, do that: it's none of their business where you go. |
