I ran across this business when scouting adult-hakwon jobs in Seoul. I looked around google and here at Dave's, and what I saw said it was a test-prep and ESL publisher and that is the jobs it has.
But, what I saw outside its nice building seemed like a hakwon --- a lot of young adults going in and out and walking in the area....
But, I didn't find any ads here at Dave's for NETs.
If it does have classes, does it just stick to test preparation and uses Korean instructors exclusively?
The building looked impressive.....I thought it was a new hakwon chain... |

hackers is not a new hagwon. it's a very established one & teachers have a lot of experience and make a lot of money.
a lot of koreans are hired for the hagwon since they teach test prep
- hackers.co.kr
their books are used by a lot of hagwons also |

THEY'RE the ones making a killing in the ESL industry: one of my friends works for them, and a few years ago, before she was as popular as she is now, she made 200,000 won/hour. Very competitive too, kinda cutthroat from what I hear.
Too bad the makers of TOEIC had to pay so many companies to keep requiring their tests, as it was falling out of favour a few years ago... Just goes to show how inter-related business and education is in this country. |

Thanks for the answers.
It is new to me.....last time I taught in Korea was 2000 and last time I spent considerable time in Korea was 2002....and I haven't heard of it before..... (stopped coming around Dave's around 2004...) |

They really made a killing on selling TOEIC prep books for a decade or so.
Just about every single Korean college student/adult has at least one TOEIC book, and Hacker's stuff has always been at the top of their "need to own" list. |
