My boss has reservations about a couple we are interviewing, as one has graduated from Concordia. These are English language universities, but he says that Immigration won't know that, and will just reject a visa app. just because of the university being in Quebec. I think there must be some grads here from Concordia/McGill...any problems with getting a visa?

Canadian Passport + any Accredited University Degree = No problems with Korean Immigration.

Are you a McGill/Concordia grad? There are so many odd little requirements coming down the pike these days, I would like to hear from someone who actually has experience, or knows of someone who does.

Canadian Passport + any Accredited Anglophone University Degree = No problems with Korean Immigration.

Canadian Passport + any Accredited University Degree = No problems with Korean Immigration at the embassy in Japan.

(this is information from 4 months ago) A friend of the family was turned down by an embassy Canada because he went to a small little French university. His recruiter brought him to Korea and sent him on a visa run to Japan, with no problem. My guess (from the above situation) is that the Korean embassies in Canada know a lot more about the universities in Canada and would be fine with Concordia and McGill.

A McGill B-Ed here. Had no problems in Korea for 4 years. Same same for my good friend and Concordia grad who's been in Korea for 6 years. Your boss's reservations are completely unfounded.

Your boss is even aware that there are 2 languages in Canada never mind know which unis are Francophone and which are Anglophone?

Suprised the he11 out of me.

BTW, immigration does have a list of NOT accepted univeristies and they do know which are French only.

I had problems.

Last time I had a new E2 process on my current passport (new married name, no trace of the previous work visas) they rejected me the first round.

My Name was spelled "frenchy style", like Anne instead of Ann (you get it)... my hometown in Ontario was also spelled "frenchy", ending in -ville... and my uni was McGill.

I laughed my ass off on that one. Luckly my real job came through and I never needed to go get the damned E2.

I can still picture (in my imagination) the guy at immigration high-fiving the others, whooping it up becaue "they got one!"

I can barely read the back of a cereal box in french.

OP: If a school wants you enough, they'll take you to immi in person and demonstrate that you're a native english speaker. There are tons of people from Montreal around.

thanks to those that replied...Simone, it is for one of our potential new hires we were concerned for. It is good to be prepared...good to hear that most people had no problems.
