One clarification, one question:
-Criminal Check, Medical Check, Drug Test, Transcripts.. I can get these, eventually, but I've never needed them, I got here before they were required and got married before the changes, I've almost always worked with adults in corporate settings or hagwons, so it's never been an issue. I think that strictly speaking, I'm not required to submit them and I can be hired without them (maybe not the diplomas, but I have originals with me here). I actually support most of the concept, so I'm willing to do go through with it, but I'm looking to start next month, so there's no way for me to get some of those things quickly enough. Will that fly?
-Salary, I'm thinking that since I don't need housing, health insurance, severance pay or a flight ticket, I should be able to ask for about 3.0 (regardless of my Masters or my experience in Korea), Hopefully I'll be able to bypass recruiters by just calling up my local middle and high schools, anyone know if there is a going rate?
Last thing, this is down in Yongin, near Suwon, not Seoul, not sure if that makes a difference.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you're teaching in a programme like EPIK or GEPIK they'll likely still want the CBC and health check, and they're going to put you on the same pay scale as everyone else regardless of your visa status. |

so, no housing, airfare or severance, ISHT, I should just take them, rent out the house, buy and refund the airfare and take the severance. I know you've been around awhile, so I'm trusting what you say, YTF would anyone with an F2 work in a public school then?
honestly, trying to bypass the recruiter and just have my wife call the local schools. |

I have an F5 visa and work in a public school.
I get a housing allowance. I also get medical and pension, they are required by law. My kids are on my insurance card.
I used the round trip ticket last year to visit my folks. The new contract with a re-signing allowance instead of airfare reimbursement will benefit me and other F visa holders. |

I meant YTF because, I read YB's post too quickly, in my particular situation, I would rather have the cash factored into my monthly salary, which, even with everything lumped in, (seems like around 3mil total) is much less than I'm used to making working P/T at different places.
Where's the silver lining? Is it really that easy to get privates in your area from kids in your school or something? I was thinking about doing morning and evening corporate work before and after school to try to balance out the income, but that route seems like it would lead to burn out BIG TIME |

I worked multiple part-time jobs for about three years. I got tired of the extra travelling and unpaid vacation. Basically I had to quit the jobs to take a vacation and start again.
Working at public school I have a full-time job with the usual benefits. I'm done by 4:40. I like having my evenings free.
My special class for parents pays about as well as a private. I got extra $ for the winter classes I did, worked out pretty well per hour. In the past I didn't have to work when there were no students there. Now might be a different story.
When I was working multiple part-time jobs I was starting to get hassled by the pension office to pay into it myself i.e 9%! At the time I had regional health insurance which I paid for myself (around 5%).
Made sense to me to make the switch. |

The school will check with immigration if your on an F2 or an F5, as a background check is done while processing the visa. They will also do a local police check. The health check can be done at whatever hospital the other teachers go to for their annual check, the school will probably pay this. |

You can take a 300,000 housing allowance instead of a free apartment, but that's the only extra you're going to get (which you could get on an E2 anyways). |

I think it's 500k at the moment. I started working in the public system recently and called GEPIK direct, but I believe ti is also possible to contact regional education offices.
If you have additional educational quals, experieince teaching and recieve the housing supplement then you should be earning around the 3mil mark. Not a bad deal really considering the work load and early finish. |

That may also depend on location. |
