Got my ARC this week, so I got a Samsung SPH-B8850 cell phone today. I've noticed lots of things hanging off Koreans cell phones. Now that I have one, I know what those things are. I have a big, fat adapter hanging off mine that allows you to plug the charger into the cell phone. I also have an antennae for TV hanging off of it. Why don't they just make the jack on the cell phone the same size as the charger? |

My cellphone has a standard jack for the universal charger to plug into. A few years ago some phones were made with different connectors for god only knows what reason! (Apart from having a fat ugly dangly on your phone and for annoying anyone who owns one). |

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna do this. It annoyed me at first, but when you think about it, I'm never going to need the adapter when I don't have the power cable, so why not just put it on the power cord? The phone store put it on my phone for me, and for some reason I lost the ability to think rationally...thought I had to leave it on for some reason. |

I would assume you take the adapter with you so you can use other power cords out in the world instead of having to take your power cord with you. |

You just need to charge your phone at home everyday. Or at least always have the spare charged up and on you.
I have a spare charger at work and just charge my phone when the battery dies. |

I always assumed it had something to do with making the circuit boards smaller so they could make the phones thinner.
That or they figured out how to create a new revenue stream by getting you to buy accessories. |

some people's adapters come with a handy string so that it hangs off your phone like a piece of bling. Mine doesn't, but they gave me an extra battery as well as an independent battery charger free. |

I think every phone in Korea uses the standard charging connection.
It is a bit big to incorporate into newer models, so the adapter. That's what I believe it's there for.
In the UK, different models nead different chargers and it's a real pain. Chargers are always getting lost or borrowed. |

At first I was annoyed that my motorola KRZR used the Korean charger and not the mini USB port.
Then, after being here and realizing that my phone can be charged anywhere. From PC bangs, convenience stores, friend's houses, at school, at the gym, etc...
Its pretty convenient having a single connection. |

The UK (and maybe the whole of Europe) recently announced that they are switching to a one-4-all charger for cell phones. It makes so much more sense and it's a lot more convenient for the consumer. |
