If you parents grew up in Britian in the fifties there's a good chance they know what a Teddy boy was. They were also known as teds. Teddy boys were basically British style rockers. They wore their hair in a ducks arse.
Greased back with brillcream. They wore Edwardian style suits with cowboy ties. They enjoyed Elvis and Gene Vincent.
Teddy Boys are sometimes confused with Rockers. Rockers were basically
what Teds evolved into after they got a motorcycle.
There was a teddy boy revival in the Seventies. The shop that Malcolm MacClaren owner originally sold Teddy Boy clothes long before The Sex Pistols formed. The Beatles did a song 'Ready Teddy " With Tony Sheridan
in Hamberg Germany. |

I remember my father talking about Teddy Boys when I was a kid in the 70's.
From time to time, the memory pops up. Since I never actually saw a Teddy Boy, the only thing I remember is the description my dad gave us. The reason he even brought it up in the first place is because we were living in Europe at the time, and he would mention that many local teenagers were trying to emulate the Teddy Boy look.
Soooo, why are we talking about Teddy Boys? |
