So, I've been here a year now and throughout the course of it Ive received electric and internet bills for about 5 different people, only one of them being another foreigner. The address is always exactly mine and I usually have my Co call them and tell them I they got the wrong place. The guy who lived in this spot before me is oddly not one of the names on these bills.

I even had a cop show up looking to be paid only to be shocked to see a waeguk in the apartment. That was freaky. I guess my question is if these clerical errors are common or not? None of my Co's seem to have had this trouble, so after a year of random debtors using my address, I'm starting to wonder about what is going on.

You need the help of a good honest bilingual Korean to get this sorted out before it results in you being stopped from flying away should you decide to take a trip or leave country. I feel bad for you and I know I would be more than angered about this situation. Get help ASAP to find out whats going on and to resolve the issue. Don't stop looking into it until you've received a resolution and a promise it's corrected. Do look into from many perspectives from phone to internet to gas to electric to water to the police to immigration. Be serious, assertive, direct, and concise about it as this is no time to joke around or give leniency, but don't expect any apologies nor detailed explanations from the Koreans. Just expect it stop.

What is Co's?

Co = Co-teacher

The situation got resolved over the weekend, at least for know. I rarely think anything gets done right in this country, even when someone speaks the language perfectly. Thanks for the concern, however I don't think the situation is as dire are you think it is. The bill plainly states a Korean name which sounds nothing like mine. When the cop showed up, he was the model for friendliness and simply asked to see my ARC, then apologized and left.

I think its more just an annoyance than anything else. I was just curious if it was commonplace or not. I guess not.

I'd think it's very commonplace, we get loads of post that isn't addressed to us, but has our address on it. And all different people as well. But I don't really care and throw them in a corner somewhere.

If the bills not in your name you don't have anything to worry about. If the billing dept didn't ask for proof of residence from the billee, how is that your fault?

The woman that lived in my place before me was a deadbeat. I got bills and court notices every week for her. Even after calling the court and the post office and the collectors, I still get stuff for her every now and again. No worries, it's not you.
